A home-automation system that can remotely turn the lights on and off in your house, irrespective of where you are, is in the making. Ishnoor Singh, an enthusiastic innovator has designed a system that is affordable, easy-to-use, easy-to-install and runs on an Android app.
About Me
I am Ishnoor Singh and I study in Delhi Public School (DPS), Sector 45 at Gurgaon in Class 12. I’ve taken the Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Economics combination in school. My father, Jatinder Pal Singh Sehdev, is an Electronics and Communications Engineer and my mother is an Executive and Leadership coach by profession and specializes in leaders in technology companies and women leadership.
Since both my parents work in the technology space, I’ve also been drawn to technology from a very young age. I have spent years trying to build and assimilate things.

After experimenting a lot, I’ve built a unique home automation system, that runs on an Android app, and can be operated from any phone. You can remotely control your light switches, and turn them on and off, when you like irrespective of where you are.
I AM BUILDING A PROTOTYPE FOR THE HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM AND NEED YOUR HELP RAISING INR 45,000 FOR THE SAME.
Picture - A glimpse of the prototype
The system uses commercially available Arduino, Wifi, Relays and Power Converter. You can use this to control 4 switches at one time, and is super easy to operate. This is a great tool to use when you are travelling and need to safeguard your house. This will help elders a great deal when they are away.
The amount raised will help me cover the cost of:
- Circuit Design
- PCB Design
- Fabrication & Assembly
The inspiration behind building the home automation system
There’s a very simple story behind trying to create an effective home automation system. Every time my grandparents would come to visit me, they would constantly worry about the safety of their house. They would call and trouble their neighbours to go and check on their house, turn on the lights in the evenings to create an impression that they are home and so on. Of course, the most natural solution to this problem was to get a home automation system installed.
So, I looked up at options and found out that the systems that were available were expensive, complicated and can only be operated by the tech savvy. What my grandparents, and many others like them need is a simple, affordable, easy-to-use system that can help them control their lights remotely.
That is when I got to work, and started putting together a new-system in place. I have a working model ready, but will need help from funders like you to build the prototype.

My past innovations
I was in class 7 when I made a robotic vehicle which could navigate its path on an obstacle course. It was fitted with a programmable brain, software controlled motors and optical sensors.

The second one I made a few years ago was a unique arduino based assembly with a motion detector, an LED and a vibration motor. I used this system to simply help get rid the habit of shaking my leg, where every time I did that, the LED would glow. A video demonstration is below-
In future, I want to study engineering and help make the technology that enables people, technology that is affordable, technology that is accessible to all classes of society, the young and the old, the rich and the poor.
This prototype will be the first step towards my vision, and I need your help to achieve the same.
Risks and challenges
There are minimal risks for the creation of the prototype. The main risk is, however, that of achieving the price target on the prototype for Rs 1000. Since the initial component purchase is not in bulk so the cost of components may be high. However, as I go through the process, I will be able to estimate the final pricing for the commercial model.
FAQs
What are we making?
A Prototype of a Controlling device, that can be installed in the cavity behind the electric switches.
How many switches will the device control?
A single device can control up to 4 switches.
How will this device be connected to phones?
The device will use Wifi to connect to an Internet server, an app on the Android phone will control each appliance separately using a simple toggle switch through the user interface
Can a person who is traveling away from home switch on or off the devices?
Yes, as long as the device is connected to the internet via wifi and the user mobile is connected to the internet, the switches can be controlled easily.
How long will it take to build the prototype?
It will take 6-8 weeks after the funding is completed.
What are the crowdfunding charges?
Fueladream charges 2% for the payment for the payment gateway and 7% as crowdfunding charges. With Goods and Services Tax the total comes to 10.62%. There is also an initial fee of 3000 INR which is being waived-off for me.
How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly. It’s s concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream is a crowdfunding site and platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.
You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on a FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries in addition to tax benefits.
