Soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces display utmost courage and complete selflessness when facing the enemy in the battlefield. Those who lose their lives in the line of duty are heroes, and the Vasantharatna Foundation wants to keep the memory of the martyrs alive by instituting Memorial Awards in educational institutes of our heroes.
These awards will be given to children in the schools where these MARTYRS studied when they were students. As of now, the initial focus is on doing this in Karnataka. These will be given, annually to one Class XII student for excellence in leadership and will carry a cash prize and a certificate.
ABOUT THE VASANTHARATNA MEMORIAL AWARD:
The Memorial Award is a key initiative of foundation and is aimed to keep the memory of the martyr alive by instituting Memorial Awards in their respective educational institutes. This will inspire and motivate the younger generation, while immortalising the hero who was also a student of the same institution .This will also enhance the stature of the spouse of the brave soldiers and jawans who have laid down their life for India .With the “Vasantharatna Foundation Memorial Award” in place, these family members will get invited as the Guests of Honour in the educational institutes, to give away the award, encourage students and fuel the undying patriotic spirit of the armed forces.
The Vasantharatna foundation is run by Subhashini Vasanth. She is the wife of Late Colonel. Vasanth V, AC & could empathise and connect with the families of the Martyrs with utmost depth and understanding long before her husband was martyred. HOW IT WORKS:
THE IMPACT :
The Vasantharatna Foundation Memorial Award can be initiated only through the generous contributions of funders like you. By raising an initial amount of INR 4,50,000, the awards can be set up in 8 educational institutes of our fearless martyrs! This will be done in small towns and villages in Karnataka. We have identified 35 martyrs and 35 schools where we would like to do this. This crowdfunding campaign focusses on raising funds for incorporating this reward in 8 schools in PHASE 1.
WHAT HAVE WE ALREADY DONE:
We have already started instituting these award .The Memorial Award at the Maharaja College, Mysore was titled in the name of the martyr as the “Major Shafeeq Khan Ghori Memorial Award” .The award was given to Rajesh Ravinder Hegde , as the "Best Outgoing Student" of Journalism in the year 2015. If the Education Institute has more than one martyr then these Awards will be presented in each of their names.

THE GENESIS OF THE VASANTHARATNA FOUNDATION:
In the month of April 2006, Subhashini with her husband Colonel. Vasanth V, AC visited Belgaum to attend a function. She also had to visit the families of the martyrs in that unit. She walked into a house to meet the widow of a martyr and 2 little, fatherless children. She went there to offer condolence, but the loss of the family hit her so hard that she broke down instead. She could instantaneously connect with them and feel their pain. Exactly three months later, her husband, Colonel. Vasanth V,AC was martyred. In moments of despair, she received tremendous support from friends and family. However, she was constantly reminded of the widow in Belgaum, who was all alone without anyone to help cope with her loss and move on with her life.

Subhashini decided to do something for her, and for all the families of of the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. All these members deserve a helping hand, and that’s what brought about the genesis of the Vasantharatna Foundation for Arts! Her husband’s formidable spirit lives on through her work.
Subhashini, also received the Neerja Bhanot Award for her exemplary services to the families of martyrs!

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly. It’s s concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream is a crowdfunding site and platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.
You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on a FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries in addition to tax benefits.
