I'm posting the experience of the first encounter with my SPERO, E-30. Delivery : I’m from Mumbai and got the delivery of the bike on 8th of November after lots of agonizing phone calls and follow up with VRL logistics as well as the Spero logistics team. Add to it the waiting period of 3 months. And though the packing was in a dilapidated condition, fortunately the bike was completely undamaged. However, the awfully frustrating part ends here itself. Looks : As soon as I removed the covers or packing or whatever was left of it, what I saw was a staggering dusky beauty on two wheels staring back at me crying, 'Ride Me' (no pun intended ;-). I'd ordered the black & red color version and as scary and jittery ‘Black’ sounds now-a-days after yet another historic Indian version of 9/11, this blackie will only calmly soothe your eyes and mind. The bike does look grand; all accessorized with the smart LCD display, the play-station console like battery box in the centre, the motor on the back wheel, the disc brakes, the head and brake lights, etc as mentioned in the specs & features list. If the extra accessories provided as free goodies almost made up for the delay in the delivery the looks of the bike surpassed that by miles. Assembly : The bike was delivered fully assembled except for the handle bar for ease of packing. I followed the procedure mailed to me to fix the handle bar with the allen key (which actually didn’t require Einstein to figure out), checked the battery which was fully charged and the beast was all set to roll. First ride experience : A couple of days back I finally had the first date with my Spero and (I might probably sound like a fanboy) the moment I stepped my foot on the pedal, I fell in love with it. The 5 digital gears control the speed just like a normal geared motorbike. And though it takes some moments to get used to pedaling and accelerating, what really bewildered me was the way the bike sped up just by pedaling due to the cruise assisting continuous throttling feature. The maximum speed without pedaling is 25-26 kmph. However the max speed I attained was 32.9 kmph with pedal assist. There was a time when I even overtook 2-3 auto-rickshaws which then impelled me to peer for more in my ‘Darr k aage jeet hai’ moment. So I tried racing with a motorbike that passed by me, which eventually brought me back to earth. I discerned my bike’s limits and also that my ass ain’t on fire :D. The most gratifying juncture for me was when 2-3 bikers on high end motor-bikes slowed down as they passed by me staring at my beautiful beast with awe & admiration. They enquired about the bike and also gushed about the looks and even tagged along with me for about a km or so. There were many other awestricken stares as well. I even overheard someone saying, ‘how the hell is he going so fast.’ These were the moments when in true Indian style with my chest blowing up and closing in on the benchmark set by our PM, I thought, “Paisa Vasool!!!!” Despite being an amateur I rode almost 15 kms without halting and was keen for more, but my brain actualized the point I made on me discerning my limits! So that’s it. While the cash-hoarders were hysterically losing their nerves, I was in a state of bliss peacefully flying like there’s no tomorrow. It almost felt like having an orgasm :P. I just hope this turns out to be a long term relationship and my dusky beauty remains healthy & sound for many more encounters. Gosh!! It almost sounds like an actual affair. Special Note : Apart from the delay in delivery another annoying bit is the terrible sound of the horn (not the bell provided as a free goody). If someone honks that horn behind me I’d feel like shoving the whole thing up his … you know what I mean! Anyway I’ve already crossed a distance of 30 kms in a couple of days without charging the battery and there’s still some juice left for more due to the regeneration feature. Special thanks to the Spero team for coming up with a true Eco-friendly and fun e-bike and I wish them all the best for their future endeavors in their quest to provide an alternate environment friendly mode of conveyance. My ride experience on Spero is awesome. It's a centre of attraction on roads :) Few suggestions on packing: It would have been much better if wooden box used for packing instead of carton box as shipment involves shifting box at various transit points chances are very high for damage. My bike package damaged by the time I received it. Fortunately no damage caused to bike but only concern I have is back disk break caliper is producing some noise while riding in 4/5th gear.

Deliveries delayed and now, when the bike has been dispatched, it has been dispatched to a far away VRL branch. Am not sure if they will deliver it to my home OR I need to go and transport it back. Also, the dispatch email says that none of the accessories that I had chosen have been added to the bike, so I may have to procure them locally. Surely not a very good user experience for the crowd funding community. Hope the bike is up to the mark at the least.

The delivery was suppose to start by the 1st week of October. Looks like you guys have missed the mark by a month. The funders have no clue as to when we will get our promised bikes. Advance payment was made on trust and which has been betrayed. You guys have not set a good example for others to follow. If you have the courtesy kindly inform your backers the status of their final delivery.

How secure and durable is the battery compartment ? Is it anti theft & water proof, rust free ?

We have worked very hard to include features that make the ride pleasant within the prices at which it has been listed in the campaign. We are confident that the Spero is a no compromise product and the standards for this sector have been set with this launch. The battery warranty conditions are designed based on the recommendations of our partners and the utility of lithium ion batteries in automotives are different from smartphones and therefore the life would be longer. We have a list of accessories that we would share with our backers to make their Spero better than most 2wheelers in the market. Your decision to go green makes you a trend setter.

Happy to say that i have ordered an E60. I would like to make few suggestions and share my views. 1) A cycle/bike running at 25 km/hr cannot and should not be launched without mudguards on wheels. So request the creators to add that as standard fitment rather than calling it as an accessory. 2) Rear disc brake is a necessity. It should not be a choice. The inertial load at such high velocity will be too much for normal brakes at the back end. With discs at front, there will be an imbalance in braking capacity of back wheel which may lead to vehicles skidding to the sides. 3) Add few more details on battery life in terms of survival years rather than charging cycles alone is required.... One of the typical problem with such battery vehicles is to change the entire battery set after 3 years..(mobile Li-ion batteries don't survive beyond 2 years nowadays). Major question is, if i am within the 600 charging cycles, will this battery last for lets say 6 years. With all the warranty messages, there is a hesitation on our minds. 4) The MRPs listed for these vehicles are in the region of a full fledged 150 CC vehicle. So there is no way this product will be a success at those price.. The discounted price offered in this crowd funding is itself on the higher side compared to similar products in the market. So the creators have to seriously think about the pricing part. Otherwise only few green guys will buy this. I believe this product should be used by many to de-congest our cities. Without competitive attractive pricing it will be an uphill challenge. Make it really really attractive with low margins and make money in volumes. ( i am funding/buying this as i am pro-green guy and want to support such initiatives. But when i suggested my colleagues to go for it, they literally laughed at me for ordering it. I will leave it at that.)

One suggestion: Please have permanent serial number engraved on somewhere on frame. It will be great if Funders/contributors bikes have a unique serial number.

was looking for a good folding bike for some time and was about to purchase one when i read about Manikandan and Spero. I decided this is the one am looking for. Happy for this decision and will wait for my bike

I have booked E30. Can you please give me a choice of black colour bike. Also, I would like rear disc brake.

When the MD himself takes the efforts to personally interact and sort out the queries of his funders and people in general, we can rest assured about the commitment and dedication of these bunch of guys. Is it possible to add shimano gears on one's interest personally ?

Rear disk brakes and model with slanting middle bar (like ladies cycle) would be preferable

Going with some of the suggestions mentioned below including rear disc break would be a good idea. N it actually makes sense as well because we always use the rear breaks while breaking, when we're going at a good speed, to stop or reduce the speed.

Please add rear disk brake too.

Suggest that you also include a few options that we can choose to add from ..Key ones bieng , Rear Carrier , Foot rest for kids who sit on the rear career and option to convert the order for use by ladies

I liked the speed of using this site. I love the bike.

I was fortunate to get onto the E-Bike at the prototype stage & enjoyed the exhilarating experience of riding ( or should i say gliding ) the product . Its a electrifying creation in more ways than one ! Am currently testing one of the first bikes in Bangalore . My rides to Koramangala from home always have onlookers confused as i whiz past them without pedalling much to their chagrin :) . It took me 10 seconds after my first ride to decide that i needed to get this cool & sensible product !
