FACTS: Congenital Heart Disease is caused by defects in the structure of the heart. These defects are present at birth and affect the normal functioning of the heart. If left untreated, CHD can cause severe medical complications, many times leading to death. Most cases require surgical intervention, with costs typically falling in the range of INR 2.5L to 5L per surgery, depending on the complexity. So, even if CHD is detected, these high costs deter underprivileged children from getting the life-saving treatment they urgently need.

LET’S HEARTIFY, is committed to making a positive change in this bleak picture, by spreading awareness of CHD, the most common, yet largely unknown birth defect claiming millions of children’s lives all over the world. To help innocent children who are born with life-threatening heart defects, Let’s Heartify is now running this crowdfunding campaign in partnership with Rotary, Needy Heart Foundation and Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. Without timely surgeries, many children ailing with CHD do not survive and those who do manage to live, lead very painful lives, forever in and out of hospitals. No child deserves this. 

What if just INR 30,000 can save a life?

Rotary Indiranagar has arranged hugely subsidized heart surgeries for these little heart-kids. At only 1.2L INR, as opposed to the usual 2.5L to 5L that a pediatric cardiac surgery typically costs, with the help of government subsidies and an INR 30000+ funding from Rotarians, one ailing child can be operated upon, free of cost. At our end, we just need to raise another INR 30,000 to cover the gap. That is one life saved!

The money raised will be transferred directly to Rotary Indiranagar, Bangalore, at the end of the campaign. Rotary, together with Needy Heart Foundation (an NGO that works for underprivileged children battling heart conditions), will then fund Jayadeva hospital to perform the surgeries and save the life of a poor child. All details will be shared with Let’s Heartify and we shall send you regular updates on the children and their progress so that you know how your kind donations are being utilized.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

I am Crish Chengappa, a Class XII student at Delhi Public School, Bangalore North, and Founder of Let’s Heartify – a one-stop awareness and information online portal to help alleviate Congenital Heart Disease. 

When not tearing my hair over studies, I enjoy my gym work-outs, playing rock guitar, cricket, football, golf, and squash. I also manage a fair share of console gaming, reading, blogging, and coding. 

But now, to continue with my efforts at combating Congenital Heart Disease, I am seeking your help so that innocent little children with ailing hearts and a zillion dreams, can 'get a life'.

ABOUT LET’S HEARTIFY

In 2017, as part of his school campaign (the first-ever online crowdfunding campaign of its kind and scale) which funded around 40 pediatric cardiac surgeries, Crish Chengappa’s individual campaign alone supported five surgeries, instantly saving FIVE critically ill heart-kids. This momentous experience at just 15 years of age, motivated Crish to keep the fight going. 

A few months later, in 2018, on his 16th birthday, Crish founded Let’s Heartify, to spread awareness of Congenital Heart Disease and help save children, especially the underprivileged, losing their lives to the world's #1 birth defect. Let’s Heartify intends to beat a massive lack of awareness that has created a huge gap between 'need' and 'available support', so that a congenital disease which claims innocent children’s lives all over the world, can be contained, from one, easy-to-access portal.

HOW YOU CAN HELP THIS CAMPAIGN

This fundraiser is aimed at covering the costs of pediatric cardiac surgeries for underprivileged heart-kids. Even a small contribution will go a long way. The funds from this campaign will be transferred to Rotary (as they are a registered NGO and you can claim tax benefits). They, together with Needy Heart Foundation, will route it to Jayadeva hospital. Once the campaign ends, regular updates will be posted on this page to keep funders abreast of which child received the surgery, the outcome of the surgery and the progress of the child’s condition.

JAYADEVA INSTITUTE OF CARDIOLOGY

Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Bangalore, is a tertiary care autonomous institute run by the Government of Karnataka. Located on Bannerghatta road in Bangalore, it is a 600-bed hospital with state-of-the-art facilities. Presently, it serves close to 1000 patients on a daily basis, with Dr. C.N Manjunath, Director and Prof Cardiology as the key contact. Jayadeva hospital has conducted over 3000 Open Heart Surgeries, 10500 Coronary Angiograms and 4000 other procedures including Angioplasties and Valvuloplasty.

TAX BENEFITS

Funding for this campaign is eligible for tax breaks as Rotary Club of Indiranagar and Jayadeva hospital are registered trusts and you can avail of benefits under section 80G of the Indian IT Act. 

Foreign funding is not accepted.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU CAN EXPECT

To ensure complete transparency, this fundraiser will run only on the verified FuelADream online platform. There will be no cash-in-hand transactions. Your contributions will be visible on this page itself, under the FUNDERS tab. Once the funds raised are transferred to the partner hospital, the campaigner receives a report (this takes between 1 to 3 months) with information on the beneficiaries of this effort.
