Underprivileged single women have tough battles to fight in a country like India, sustaining and nurturing themselves and their children. Naam is committed to the education and empowerment of single women from the underprivileged segments who are unmarried, widowed, abandoned by their spouses or victimized in any way. The aim is to empower such single women by guiding them into suitable professions, empowering them with requisite skills and providing educational aid to their children.
Ace lensman G. Venket Ram has created the calendar 2020 for NAAM Charitable Trust, founded by actor-filmmaker Suhasini Maniratnam, as a part of their 10th-anniversary celebrations. This limited-edition calendar was launched in Chennai on February 3, 2020. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will be used to raise funds for empowering single women from under-served segments of society.
In line with the theme "celebrating the spirit of Indian Womanhood", G. Venket Ram recreated a few iconic paintings of Raja Ravi Varma portrayed by stunning women of substance from South India. Popular south Indian actors and dancers like Khushbu, Shruti Haasan, Ramya Krishnan, Aishwarya Rajesh, Samantha Akkineni, Nadhiya, Lissy Lakshmi, Shobana Chandrakumar, Lakshmi Manchu and Priyadarshini Govind turned muse for the photographer. It is commendable that none of the celebrities and team involved in the making of the calendar charged anything. They have given their time and energy in creating this calendar to help underprivileged women. Chamundeshwari who is also featured is a NAAM beneficiary and a real star in her own right for overcoming the hurdles in life after being abandoned by her husband. She is a stellar example of the women who have rebuilt their lives with the help of NAAM charitable foundation.

ABOUT NAAM CHARITABLE TRUST
Empathising with the single women in the underprivileged segment women, Naam was formed In 2010 by actor-filmmaker Suhasini Maniratnam. The basic objective of Naam is to empower single women. Naam has developed a highly personalized approach to reaching out to these women. Naam identified mentoring as the single most impactful approach and hence decided to work through a panel of women volunteers identified as Naam Thozhigal.
20 women volunteered to be coaches to take personal care of these women keep in touch with them on a daily basis and ensure that they were counselled by experts specializing in issues that affected the women. The coaches meet once a month to evaluate their work and to discuss new approaches, new resources and to discuss specific issues that need additional focus. These women coaches bring together vast experience in community work and bring with them empathy and commitment to help empower the Naam Women.
PROJECTS
HEALTH
- MEDICAL TESTING AND AID: Medical tests and aid for ailments are provided for the women and their children.
- YOGA AND NUTRITION: Regular yoga workshops are held to build a routine to sustain mental and physical wellbeing.
- FIRST AID TRAINING: Training is given to ensure the women are equipped to care for themselves and others In case of a medical emergency.
SAFETY
- SELF DEFENCE TRAINING: Women are given the tools and techniques to protect themselves and others through Krav Maga workshops.
- FIRE DRILLS AND SAFETY AWARENESS: Through awareness and precautionary measures, women will avoid such accidents and live with reduced risks.
DEVELOPMENT
- COUNSELLING: Women are provided with personal, parental, vocational, and financial counselling.
- VOCATIONAL TRAINING: NAAM helps women explore and tap Into their Interests by offering training in their field of interest.
- EDUCATION: Counselling is given to students and college entrants. Ald to students of all levels of schooling and deserving high school graduates are offered fully sponsored seats at Sathyabama University.
