India has about 4% of the world’s freshwater resources and accounts for ¼ of the world’s groundwater, ranking it among the top ten water-rich countries. Despite this, India has designated a water-stressed region. As water runs out, the country may have to confront a series of associated problems: food insecurity, vulnerability during heat waves, diseases due to deteriorating sanitation and regional conflicts over water access.
I am doing this crowdfunding campaign to transform the lives of those who live in a water-stressed village close to my school. This is being done along with many other colleagues of mine from school. We will do this by building soak pits which will give villagers access to water and save the fate of their village. Without that their future is in peril.
Background
Students from Grade 8 to 12 from my school (The Oasis International school) are appalled at the water crisis situation in our neighbouring village Kadusonnapannahalli. The village is only about 2km from the school, however, there existed a world of difference in the availability of water resources. Situated on the rock belt area it was not possible to find groundwater even at a depth of 1200 feet villagers, which is as high as a 120-floor building. The govt tried to help too. The entire village is dependent on water tankers, which provides water to every household once in 15 days. The water they receive is insufficient for their basic needs.
The only solution is to build something called Soak Pits which will recharge the water table over time and give these villagers a chance of getting reliable groundwater. The cost of creating one soak pit is INR 8000 only and the village needs between 50 to 100 soak pits.
MY CAMPAIGN AIMS TO RAISE INR 16000 OR MORE TO FUND THE INSTALLATION OF 2 OR MORE SOAK PITS.
THE PROBLEM
The students interviewed Mr.Madhu a Gram Panchayat member, the headmaster and THE students of the village school to understand the gravity of the situation. The headmaster claimed that the school now stood at a place where there was a lake many years ago. He mentioned that there were serious issues with the water availability at school bathrooms and the students have to bring their own drinking water to school. Girls have a tougher time and they do not come to school when they have their periods etc.
The cleanliness of the village was also a cause for concern. The bottom of all gutters had concrete and hence there was no possibility for the drain water to seep into the ground. Further, they were filled with garbage and silt. This affected the living condition of people in houses on either side of the drain adversely. The pathway that led to a lake in the village was clogged with garbage and hence the rainwater couldn’t reach the lake. Even if a small percentage did reach the lake, it was unclean water as it was mixed with all the dirt collected in the drain.
The solution was based on work done by Paani Foundation and many other success stories that proved that installing soak pits was an ideal long term solution to increase the level of groundwater. The village requires at least 50 -100 soak pits to make a tangible difference in the village. Each soak pit costs ₹8000 and it will benefit at least one household.
ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:
My name is MD Mohammed Fuzail. I am a Grade 8 student at the Oasis International School, Bangalore.
I have undertaken this campaign because I want to impact the lives of students and villagers in this village. Am on a mission to solve the water crisis in the nearby Kadusonnapanahalli village by constructing as many soak pits as we can. This will increase the groundwater level in the village and help the village become free from the nightmare of being water deficient. This will also help divert all the drain water into soak pits and hence improve the overall availability of water. The mission is to take this initiative forward to other villages as well.
As an individual, I am trying to raise INR 16000 or more to build two soak pits or more. Let us together make a difference and transform the lives of people in this village.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
