WHO WE ARE
Hi! We are RAINBURN, a rock band based out of Bangalore, India. Our music combines elements of art rock, heavy metal, pop, funk, ambient music, and Hindustani classical music, and is typically classified as progressive rock (Prog, for short). Our first mini album, or EP as it's commonly referred to, was named among the Top 5 Prog Albums of 2015 by the reputed Classic Rock magazine.
We are now raising funds for the making of our first full-length album, called THE ANTHROPIC CONCEIT, and we need your support. Contribute to this campaign and help make it a success!
ABOUT OUR DEBUT EP
Our debut EP, Canvas of Silence, was released at the end of 2014 and garnered huge critical acclaim, especially in international music circles.

OUR CURRENT PROJECT
We are now looking to record our first full-length record, The Anthropic Conceit, a 10-song concept album that deals with issues of existentialism and the significance of life, told through the eyes of an artist.
In physics, 'The Anthropic Principle' refers to the belief that the laws of the universe are based on the necessity of the existence of human life. This line of thought extends far into philosophical and religious realms, to a conviction that humans are central to the scheme of things in the universe and that all physical laws are designed - usually by a creator whom we call God - with human life at its focal point.
In the context of this album, 'The Anthropic Conceit' refers to the human habit of craving or assuming importance, mostly just from the "achievement" of being born human. We long for significance in literally everything we do, whether it's wanting recognition for all our successes, or seeking sympathy for all our failures and flaws.
The album, told from a musician's point of view, delves into these thoughts. The protagonist of this story, Vincent, goes through the entire range of these emotions within the span of a single day. In Hindustani music, many ragas are associated with a particular time of day or night; for the compositions within this album, ragas specific to the time in the story are used as departure points.
The album features 10 tracks:
- The Wait
- Merchant of Dreams
- Elusive Light
- Mirrors
- Someone New
- Purpose
- Suicide Note
- The Anthropic Conceit
- Encore
- School of Atlantis
Most of these songs have already been written and arranged. The band intends to finish writing by November, 2017, and then proceed with recording and post-production. The album is expected to be released at the end of April, 2018.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Recording and releasing a quality album costs money, whether it be in terms of studio rentals, engineer's fees, videographer and equipment charges for music videos, or the cost of producing merchandise. It is entirely due to the support of our family, friends and well-wishers like you that we're daring to dream of making a piece of art that we feel will stand the test of time. We hope you will contribute to this campaign, and join us in the quest to bring out the full potential of our music in The Anthropic Conceit!
WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTION PAYS FOR
Although our goal is INR 445,000, we encourage you to please keep funding our campaign even if we've hit our target. The more money we raise, the more we can do with the album, especially in terms of PR and putting together a tour, two elements that are indispensable when it comes to staying in the game in today's saturated industry.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN
Choose one of the several cool rewards listed here to go with your contribution. Not only do we intend to give you an album of great music, but several things that are part of this campaign, such as notebooks, sticker sets and wall art, are exclusive to this campaign and will not be available outside of it.
THE BAND
Praveen Kumar :
An IIT and IIM alumnus as well as the resident metalhead of the band, Praveen plays the drums, and in his spare time, he plays with his cats. He also does a pretty accurate Michael Jackson impersonation - or, at least, he likes to think he does.
Favourite band: Gojira
Favourite TV show: Game of Thrones
Anirban Ghosh :
Anirban, or Baan as he is popularly known, lives in Delhi and has played bass for everyone from heavy metal band Prestorika to Sushmit Sen of Indian Ocean fame. He is heavily into jazz and fusion music, and more recently, theatre work.
Favourite band: Queen
Favourite movie: Gladiator
Vats Iyengar
Composer-in-chief, lyricist, vocalist, guitarist and general guiding force of the band. In his spare time, which he has very little of, Vats likes to jump rope, eat pizza and watch wildlife documentaries, sometimes all at once.
Favourite band: The Beatles
Favourite book: Night by Elie Wiesel
Paraj Kumar Singh
Paraj is, by some distance, the youngest member of the band; perhaps that's one reason his life's calling keeps alternating day-to-day, between playing guitar, traveling, writing, playing tabla, running his own studio and probably a few new ones he's thought of today.
Favourite band: Riverside
Favourite dish: Laal Maas
FAQs
Q: Why do you need crowdfunding to make an album?
A: Record labels, in this day and age, expect finished products from a band before they decide to sign them up. With the advent of the Internet, it's easier for independent musicians to reach their audience directly and raise money for making music, while at the same time making products that propel them towards higher goals, such as labels and international tours.
Q: What happens if I have contributed but you don't reach your goal?
A: We still go ahead with the project and you get what you have been promised.
Q: How do I decide if I like your music enough to contribute or not?
A: Here are some links to help you decide.

Q: When do you plan to release the album and when do I get my rewards?
A: The album shall be released towards the end of April, 2018. You shall receive your rewards within 3 weeks of the release date, typically earlier. Before that, we shall be releasing another single, and video, from the album in March, 2018. You shall also receive fortnightly updates from us on our progress during this journey.
Q: I don't stay in India. Can I still contribute?
A: Yes, of course! There is a foreign payment gateway that allows for online payment from anywhere in the world, as long as you have a credit or debit card that can be used internationally.
