Water is the key to life. Millions of women in rural India walk many kilometres a day to get water from a distant water source like a river, lake or pond. They do this by carrying pots or vessels on their heads and make multiple trips. This takes up all their time, creates health issues (as it impacts the back, neck, etc) and leads to unnecessary stress.
We can together change that with a simple, low cost and amazing innovation called the Water Wheel.
The water wheel is a simple, low cost, high impact initiative that allows them to carry a large volume of water with minimal effort. This saves them time, energy and is a game-changer in rural areas. They can use the time saved for the betterment of their families. It also creates social change as men step forward and use the water wheel to get water.
The cost of each Water Wheel is just INR 2500, including distribution.
I am raising INR 15000 or more to impact 6 women or more in the villages around Bharatpur, Dholpur and Sirohi in Rajasthan by giving each of them a water wheel. This is being done in partnership with the Mumbai based NGO, Habitat for Humanity India. Each water wheel has a capacity of 45 L and one trip in a day is enough for the needs of the entire household typically.
These funds will be used for funding 6 women by giving them a water wheel each. If I raise INR 50000, I can impact 20 women.
IMPACT
Water wheels in Paharegaon village in Maharashtra. One of the most important elements in this picture is the fact that men are willing to help out with getting water if a Water Wheel is available. That is a dramatic change in behaviour.
CASE STUDY
ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:
My name is ROHIT SHARMA, a Grade 9 student at DPS, Gurgaon.
I have undertaken this campaign because I believe this is an initiative that honestly transforms the lives of women in rural India. Carrying pots of water on their heads, every day, for a lifetime is an age-old practice of carrying water from water bodies to their homes in villages all across the nation. Women have to travel long distances making the task that much more difficult. It is not only back-breaking but time-consuming. Not only is fetching this water a tedious process but due to the ergonomics of the water pots, it also leads to a wastage of water.
The Water Wheel solves this problem forever & gives them time, better health and less stress. Let us together help make their lives easier. The time saved is used for other chores and in a lot of cases leads to higher income as the time saved is put to good use by women to earn money. This impacts the household income and leads to a happier family.
Please support my campaign and let us together bring joy to more women in rural India.
FEATURES & SPECS
The water wheel is a cylindrical plastic container that can hold up to 45 litres of water. The handles help people to roll it on the ground without the physical strain that occurs while carrying water pots on head, shoulders or waist.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from NGO (this takes between 2 to 4 months usually after the funds are raised & transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. That's transparent right.
The below image is an example of the FEEDBACK FORMAT that will be shared.
FAQs
Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Habitat for Humanity. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload the picture of the beneficiary on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.
When do I get the receipts?
It takes up to 2-3 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to the NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.
How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
