"Art is as natural as sunshine and as vital as nourishment.- Maryann F. Kohl
Kalakrida is an art intensive 3-week summer camp for students at government schools and other underprivileged children living in and around Jakkur, Bengaluru. The main objective of this camp is to expose the children to different art forms and allow them to explore their creativity under the mentorship of experienced artists. This exposure is often missed out by children from economically stressed communities for various reasons. In addition to learning about art forms, the children learn non-cognitive skills such as teamwork and discipline in a safe environment that has a positive impact on their self-confidence. The children are also provided with nutritious food and transportation so that the parents are not burdened in any manner.
Over the last 4 years, expert professional artists from different art forms such as dance, music, painting, craft, theatre and puppetry mentored the children for 3 weeks. Their effort and learnings culminated in a grand performance by the children at the community space in Jakkur, Bengaluru with their parents and their neighbours in the audience. Kalakrida concludes with a picnic to places around Bengaluru to celebrate the hard work put in by children.
The cost per child inclusive of workshops, food, transport, performance and picnic is just INR 8000. The total budget to set-up and organise such a vibrant workshop involving artists and students come up to only INR 8,00,000, out of which INR 4,00,0000 or more is aimed to be raised through crowdfunding.
This camp has now grown from 30 children in 2016 to nearly 100 plus last year with many of them having been part of this for all 4 years. This year, it will be held from 6th April to 25th April 2020 for ages 8 to 16 at Sampigehalli, Jakkur, Bengaluru.
I AIM TO RAISE INR 40000 OR MORE TO IMPACT 5 OR MORE UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:
I am DEBASMITA THAKUR BHAGCHI and currently Employee in Delhi.
I am running a crowdfunding campaign to help raise funds for an art workshop that will change the lives of underprivileged children from govt. schools living in and around Jakkur, Bangalore. In addition to learning about art forms, the children learn non-cognitive skills such as teamwork and discipline in a safe environment that has a positive impact on their self-confidence. The children are also provided with nutritious food and transportation so that the parents are not burdened in any manner.
I believe that this crowdfunding campaign is beneficial because art is a vital part of a child's early development. But this is often neglected in pursuit of academics. There are a number of studies that prove the countless benefits of being exposed to art at a young age. All forms of art facilitate self-discipline and the importance of teamwork, it hones decision-making skills but most importantly gives them a medium through which they can express themselves. This is all being done in 21 days for over 100 kids.

FAQs
How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
