ABOUT ASHANILAYA
Ashanilaya is the home to many orphaned and homeless children. All of the children cared for at Ashanilaya are poor disadvantaged kids who have been abandoned by their parents or do not have relatives to adequately care of them. Illiteracy, poor sanitation, inadequate housing, illness, poverty and an unsafe environment contribute to the need for care for a large number of children living in rural areas and slums. These are insurmountable challenges for the children without the kind of help that Ashanilaya provides.
Our orphanage was founded in 2001 with the following goals:
- Make the children feel wanted and loved
- Provide a safe and secure environment
- Provide guidance and support
- Encourage healthy habits and humanistic values
- Make it possible for the children to imagine a better future for themselves
- To provide a full education in English Standard schooling
Our Mission is to give New Hope and create a New Future for orphaned and other vulnerable homeless children with no one to care for them and no where else to go, and for helpless children living in difficult circumstances with little or no chance of a dignified existence.
To accomplish our mission, we provide an environment of emotional and psycho-social support where children emerge empowered with the feeling of being wanted and are able to imagine a better future for themselves by dreaming big and having great ambitions.
We do everything we can to ensure they have every thing they need to achieve their dreams and ambitions.
SUCCESS STORIES OF OUR CHILDREN
- PAVITHRA'S STORY
Pavithra is 6 years old and lives in a small hut in Pathakotte village in Tamil Nadu. Her family is very poor. They depend for their living entirely on the small and irregular earnings from father who works in the village barber shop. Her father, who previously suffered from an alcohol addiction, has stopped drinking after attending SevaChildren’s alcohol education programme. As a result, her father is now able to work more and thus earn more money to support the family. Through SevaChildren’s livelihoods work, Pavithra’s grandmother received goats, which she is now using to create an income for the family. SevaChildren not only provides children with the opportunity to access education, but also supports family members to improve their own lives, in turn benefitting children just like Pavithra.
- POONGODI'S STORY
From the age of 6 years Poongodi has been raised at Ashanilaya Orphanage and she is now in the College doing her 2nd PUC. With the type of personality & talents development, the value system and the character traits she has been raised at Ashanilaya, Poongodi can now look forward for a very bright future. She is passionately pursuing her studies as she wants to do MBA in order to secure good job in some reputed Multinational Company. It is her dream to be able to help other disadvantaged orphan children to build their broken lives and have a happy future. That is how she wants to pay back to the Society for helping her to be what she is today.
