Thousands of daily wage earners, migrant labour and the financially poor are impacted because of COVID-19. While the lockdown may be lifted soon, the plight of these workers will remain the same for at least another 45 days. The government will provide some of them with relief packages. but we need to understand that the task is massive. Recognising this need, Legend COVID Aid Initiative was started by Priya Sachdeva and Nitya Khemlani-Chaiwala.
Priya Sachdeva and Nitya Khemlani-Chaiwala
They reached out to a shopkeeper and found a brave tempo-driver to help.
They started arranging and distributing ration food kits to multiple slums across Bombay. What started as a fairly small operation, a few kits here and a few kits there, a request through a tailor or a carpenter that they knew personally, has grown organically and have impacted over 3,500 families so far.
HOW THEY OPERATE
The raw materials have been sourced from the APMC in Vashi, they are ordered in bulk and taken directly to the supermarket (Legend Supermarket located at Walkeshwar). Kirti, the owner, arranges the individual kits and once they are ready, the tempo driver picks them up and delivers them to a drop off location where there is a contact person. For all inbound requests, a list of people with telephone numbers is required, and then verification is done.
They have been working across Mumbai - from Colaba to Kurla, where ever we received an SOS from. Also with the BMC in both Ward C & E - where help was required to get kits out to the undocumented people in their area.
Funds from this campaign will be utilised in Mumbai.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN
I am REBECCA RAMPAL. I am 16-years-old and in Grade 11 at the DSB International School, Mumbai.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in different ways. Perhaps the hardest hit is the daily wage earners, migrant labour and the financially poor. Suddenly they are without any source of income, and they are not able to provide food or the basic hygiene facilities to their families. They fear starvation more than the virus itself. At this juncture, we, the more privileged sections of the society need to step up to support them in this difficult time. The lockdown, being extended, puts an additional burden on them.
I request all of you to support my campaign so that we can also contribute to their well-being in our own small little way. Let's come together and do our bit to help our fellow countrymen.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
