Coliseum Productions Presents "Aayan"
A HINDI LANGUAGE SHORT FILM
In his early 30s, Rishi isn't really settled with his life. A good job, a decent house to live in and his independence, he is the reality of our lives; however only on the onset because inside him there's a world of ambitions and the desperation to break the glass ceiling. Things aren't the best for him. The monotony is overwhelming to an extent that one fine day he meets the tipping point and finds himself broken. It is amidst these emotions, Rishi decides to visit his grandma, a widowed old lady who resides in Manali. When he visits her, he finds himself in a space where he opens up about his struggles. He opens up about his insecurities to his grandma who shares life stories and tells him that it's our choices who make us and that the responsibility of happiness solely lies with us. With a fresh perspective, Rishi realises that his emotions and thoughts are valid. He comes back from his visit accompanied with self confidence and positive vibe.
Aayan is not an inspirational saga as we see in the movies where people quit jobs, sleep on pathways to achieve their dreams. It's a humble reminder to embrace and own our realities and that happiness is always around the corner only if we wish to see it.
Aayan is a Hindi language short film rooted and set in India. English subtitles for the same will be available.

BUDGET AND FUNDING:
Film-making is a costly process and we understand this. But as filmmakers, we have always figured out ways to get things done as cost-effective as possible. We work on shoestring budgets and sometimes on a zero budget.
Being a short film set in a Manali and Hyderabad, Aayan requires us to be well - financed. A crew of about 5 people will work on this project on a very basic pay. (i.e. They are not charging for their services at the rate that is valid at the market).Friends and family are supporting us by giving us free access to shoot on locations they own.All this is helping us keep the costs in check.
COST BREAK DOWN:
We are raising INR 1.5L out of the above costs through this crowdfunding campaign.Once we get past 1.5L INR we will stretch our goal to raise money for the rest of the expenses that also include small actor payment expenses. Either way, we still will make the film.
PROJECT TIMELINE:
We as a team have already started our pre-production and through will the final script, the onboarding of actors and the location finalisation and taking permissions for the same. As for the next steps are in the process of rehearsing the scenes and will be ready to go on floor as soon as the actors are ready.
Risks and challenges
Aayan is simplistic with its story. It's a grounded reminder for every adult who still hasn't realised his/her worth. The film focuses on the need for a quest rather than a portrayal of an inspiring journey. In the first of it's kind, a Hyderabad based production group is attempting to deliver a project spanning over a different geography and scale. Unlike mainstream movies, this short film will be a crisp and a feel-good attempt for the audiences who are in Rishi's age bracket and for those who have children like him. The film has life elements which everyone can connect to. If I had to choose 1 word for this film it would be 'relevant' and nothing else. Aayan which essentially means "God's gift" is true to its meaning since this short film will just tell us to embrace ourselves.
Through the idea seems simple, there are some obvious hurdles that we are looking to encounter:
The risk of overshooting on budgets and timelines is the biggest challenge.
We understand this problem. Before Aayan was in the crowdfunding stage, It was in the pre-production process .With an experienced crew we created a detailed schedule and a plan that will help us be on track.
Each day has been micro-managed to "specific time slots"for each shot.Alternate "indoor" options for bad weather & snowy days have also been identified .
But then again. We will battle Murphy's law. This is why we have budgeted a small amount of money for contingencies.
FAQs
When will the final film be out?
The final film will be out in April 2018 . Those of you who fund us, the cast, crew and their families will get to watch the film at a private cinema screening. For the general public, the film will be released only after the festival circuit - roughly April/May 2019
What if the campaign is not successful?
Fueladream will return the money invested back to the Funders as this is a "all or nothing" campaign. We opted for this mainly because a project this scale cannot be filmed with anything less than the funding target mentioned. Also this will drastically add to the quality of the film and the story.
