LET'S HELP WOMEN & GIRLS LIVE A HEALTHY & HYGIENIC LIFE
Many women living in poverty use rags, newspaper, cotton or even mud to manage their menstrual periods. None of these work very well and can cause huge medical issues, infections and injuries; they also restrict the women’s movement. Affordability and lack of awareness are the key issues. Often, women fear being in public without protection from blood staining. India is one of the countries with the highest rates of cervical cancer (it accounts for almost 23% of all cancer in Indian women), and the studies shows a direct link between HPV infections (cause of cervical cancer) and poor menstrual hygiene. So we need to educate them about good menstrual hygiene practices & the first step is by introducing them to a year of using LOW - COST sanitary pads. A simple change in a lifestyle habit can often change social indicators
ABOUT ME & THE CAMPAIGN
Hi, I’m Kajol. I am doing my part in helping the NGO Blooming Beacon and their aim and objective is to plan and execute social initiatives that can make the world around us a better place.
My friends and classmates from the SRM college have together decided that we will do a crowdfunding campaign that would raise awareness about the needs of women & young girls when it comes to the need, use and practices of using Sanitary pads. Its imperative that in todays day and age that such a basic need for young girls and women amongst the economically weaker section is not met.
Am raising 10000 INR through this campaign and these funds will be used to impact approximately 40 girls and women by providing them with low cost sanitary pads for a entire year. YES FOR A ENTIRE YEAR. All it takes is INR 250 to change a life. Fund INR 1000 and you impact 4 girls/women.
HELP ME RAISE RS 10000 TO PROVIDE SANITARY NAPKINS TO 40 WOMEN AND GIRLS FOR A YEAR.
FACTS: SANITARY PAD USAGE IN SLUMS
Many women in the slum areas still use cloth during menstruation as they cannot afford sanitary napkins. Mainly because sanitary napkins are manufactured using expensive machinery and so are priced at a premium. As a result of these unhygienic practices, more than 70% of women suffer from reproductive tract infections, increasing the risk of contracting associated cancers. Blooming Beacon has taken an initiative in spreading awareness and take part in the distribution of the sanitary napkins and make them available to all the women especially in the rural areas. Recent studies show that only 20% of the women in India use sanitary pads.
For some women, affordability is not an issue, it is the access to a pad that is a challenge. Many women in slums and village have to walk for at least 20 minutes to find a store those stocks-sanitary-napkins.
HOW WE INTEND TO EXECUTE THIS
Step 1: Each of us is raising 10000 INR. As a group of students we will raise approx 10L+ INR
Step 2: We will procure low cost sanitary pads from the supplier.
Step 3: We intend to give girls and women in the Perungalathur area approx 84 sanitary napkins (this is enough for a year) per person.
Step 4: This will impact approx 4000+ girls and women for a full year.
In addition, we also aim to address the issue of creating awareness programs so that the downside in terms of health is understood by both women and young girls.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream is a crowdfunding site and platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.
You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on a FB page or a thank you email from
