Support young aspiring engineers from Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering (CRCE) to design, fabricate, test, market and race a Formula racecar.
CRCE Formula racing – The team story
CRCE Formula Racing is Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering’s Formula SAE Team. A mutual passion for automobiles and a zeal to learn formed the essence of CRCE Formula Racing in 2016. 37 students from various engineering disciplines make up the 2017 - 18 team. Each student brings instrumental skills to the team and this union between the diverse skill and strong teamwork forms the core of our team.
Filled with a passion for motorsports and an insatiable hunger to learn, these students take up the task of designing and fabricating an open-cockpit single seater formula prototype racecar right from scratch. Our car is then taken to a number of Formula Student competitions across the globe where it's true caliber is evaluated against many other teams from around the world.
Since it's inception, CRCE Formula Racing has participated at Formula Student Japan, SAE Supra India 2017 and Formula Bharat 2018. At Formula Bharat 2018 we ranked 27th overall out of 80 teams across India, finishing 13th in Design event and 19th in Cost event.
Carrying with us a ton of experience and learning from a bunch of rookie mistakes, we have begun R&D to engineer a much superior, significantly lighter and unbelievably faster racecar to compete at upcoming competitions viz Formula Bharat 2019 and SAE SUPRA 2019.
About me and this campaign
My name is Umesh Shrestha and am a 19 years old aspiring engineer, studying in the 2016-2020 year at the Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering at Bandra in Mumbai. I am a part of the "Team CRCE Formula racing" and it's our dream and vision to build the best formula student race-car and one day represent INDIA at an international level event. Being part of this team has been one of the best experiences of my life especially when I see young engineers like me bringing to life a race-car from scratch. We have a team full of people with passion and ready to fight any hindrance that we face. We are really fired up to finish in the top 3 next season but we lack the required monetary support to build a car that has the caliber to finish in the top 3. I am raising an amount of ₹ 10,000 individually to help my team build the best race-car and encourage my team to build the best. We are not asking you to just hand out your money to us, but to engage in a powerful relationship with mutual trust. Please fund generously and we will put your funding to very good use.
Why support us?
Being just undergraduate engineering students, it's not easy to build a race car of this caliber while managing your semester studies, assignments, journals, and college projects. While most engineering students attend college for a mere 6-7 hours a day, a formula student team demands dedication and discipline, that requires the team members to work 5-6 hours every day after attending 7 hours of lectures, which is 13-14 hours of work daily in order to build the Racecar while maintaining the given deadlines. Additionally, it includes working through sleepless nights, hot afternoons, lazy weekends, and sometimes even teammates getting cut by grinders or burnt while welding, and a bunch of unexpected challenges that we face on a day to day basis. None of these challenges can stop us from working towards our goal of building the best ever formula student Racecar.
We are really passionate about what we do so we leave no stone unturned in building the best formula prototype Racecar. But being a student organization, lack of sufficient financial support is a major setback for the team.
The motorsport field is all about speed, precision, and fast-innovative technical evolution. All these factors are more or less directly proportional to the overall budget involved, strong team spirit and determination.
Considering these factors, our current car is built with a budget of Rs.3.5 lakhs with which we managed to finish 27th out of 80 teams nationwide, while the teams that finished in the top 5 had a budget of around Rs. 20 lakhs and above. A lower budget means a lot of compromises which means a poorer performing car.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Through this crowdfunding campaign, we are aiming to raise a part of the overall INR 6.58L amount that we need. So please continue funding our campaign even after we get to the goal as our needs are substantially larger.
Being just a student organisation, we were unable to build a beneficiary account for our team. Therefore all donations made from this crowdfunding campaign will be forwarded to Mr. Aquinas Correia ,team CRCE Formula Racing's Chief Financial Officer's account.
This amount needs to be raised as fast as possible because the designing phase of the car can be initiated only after we import a new set of tires and rims. Thus, the quicker we raise the amount, the faster the work of our car starts progressing. If we manage to accomplish this budget we can easily assure a top 3 finish at our next competition.
Out of 1.5 million engineers graduating every year, it is this bunch of few students that create a change in the country we live. If we support and encourage our youth in such technological innovations, our country could be much in ahead of countries like USA and Japan in terms of the latest advancements in technology.
The team is currently working on building a Data Acquisition System that will send real-time data of the vehicle to an online server so that this data can be tracked live on different mobile devices and computers. This system is not yet introduced in cars in India’s but our team members have already completed modules for tracking RPM, Speed, Battery level, fuel level and temperature data. We are now working on the GPS, body-roll, brake pressure, gear selected, and acceleration measurement sensors. These sensors help monitor the car, check it is running smoothly, analyze and improve the performance and take the most appropriate decisions based on the collected data.
Our team has long-term visions that we can work towards only if you can help us out in completing our current goals. Once we ace the art of building the best combustion vehicle, our team envision’s to:
- Implement an aerodynamic kit for the next season (Research already on-going).
- Build an Electric Formula Racecar within the next two years
- Build a Driverless formula Racecar within the next 4 years.
- Represent the country at International competitions.
The first F1 cars looked very different from what they are now and the heart of the car – the engine and technology – have undergone a huge metamorphosis going from rather robust mechanical wonders to highly responsive, fine-tuned, agile supercars that use more technology than any other cars. According to Paddy Lowe, the Chief Technical Officer of William Martini Racing one of the best formula one team in the world – quote “Formula student is raising the caliber of engineering that we see in Formula 1”. This is a major encouragement for the team to continue engineering better formula racecars every year.
Donating to young engineers expresses your support for talented, motivated and striving individuals such as yourself. Be determined, be strong, be focused – be the leading role model for the values you stand for.
So donating to my team is not just about handing out your money. It is engaging in a powerful relationship with mutual trust. Supporting motorsports enthusiasts is not for the faint-hearted. It is all about speed, precision, fast innovative technical evolution, strong team spirit, and determination. So if this is what you stand for, then this is the perfect cause for you to support.
"Give the youth a proper environment. Motivate them. Extend them the support they need. Each one of the has an infinite source of energy. They will deliver" - Dhirubhai Ambani

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream is a crowdfunding site and platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.
You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on a FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
