The Raincoat Project was the brainchild of thirteen-year-old Avantika Swali, who wanted to do something about the plight of underprivileged children who didn’t have adequate protection and safety from the harsh Mumbai rains and the diseases that are associated with it. These raincoats, of international quality, are designed by Avantika herself, with no help from adults! She, along with other students who were passionate about making a difference, formed a core team and thus the Raincoat Project took flight.
This campaign aims to raise funds to give these raincoats to street kids in Mumbai. Each Raincoat costs just INR 500 (USD 7 approx). The NGO partners are the Rotary Club of Bombay Hanging Garden and ACE who will help with the execution.
The raincoats use recycled material, have a unisex design, come in 6 sizes & have a cool hoodie.
ABOUT THE RAINCOATS
THE DEVASTATION CAUSED BY MUMBAI MONSOONS
PROJECT RAINCOAT
This Raincoat is made from polytetrafluoroethylene which has microscopic pores that large enough to allow water vapour from your body to escape, yet small enough to prevent water droplets from getting inside. Keeping dry can go a long way especially when it ensures that you can be safe and healthy.
ACE has partnered with the Dharavi School and the Art of Living Foundation for the distribution of raincoats in the slum areas of the city. Through these channels, that will ensure that thousands of raincoats reach the children who need them. The Raincoat Project aims at providing superior quality raincoats to India’s underprivileged street children and young adults during the monsoon season. They will be distributed across Mumbai.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
