THE PROBLEM
- The average rainfall in Chikkanahalli in Tumkur is 700 mm, but the lakes are filled with silt, hence they have no capacity to hold water.
- The silt can be removed and is effective as a fertiliser.
- 90% of the surrounding bore wells in the village have also dried up
- Villagers depend on tankers and neighbouring villages for water
THE SOLUTION
Reviving a 300-acre lake will transform life in the villages surrounding it. This is a herculean task and the most effective way to do it is through an innovative concept called "LAKE-IN-LAKE". In this concept, smaller lakes (water collection areas) would be built within the larger lake so as to ensure there is groundwater recharge. This is more cost-effective and efficient.
The LAKE-IN_LAKE initiative that needs support and funding will be of approximately 1-acre size. This will impact about 75-100 acres. The plan is to build 3 such lakes for this 300-acre area. The catchment area (ie. an area of land, where the surface water from rainfall flows to form the lake) is 1 km.
The lake is in Chikkanahalli village, Tumkur district (near Bengaluru).
This campaign is being done by the Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar, IIT-IIT ( an organization of IIT alumni) in partnership with Mr Ayyappa Masagi from the Water Literacy Foundation.
The total funds required to create one lake is about INR 5.6L. The total for 3 lakes is INR 16.8L. Me and other students from different schools are coming together to raise these funds. The more we raise the more lakes we can revive. The initial objective is to raise INR 5.6L and the ideal scenario is if we raise the entire INR 16.8L. Each lake is a standalone project.

REASONS TO FUND THIS CAMPAIGN
ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Shivi Jain. I am a Grade 12 student at TISB School.
I have undertaken this campaign to revive a dead lake in Chikkanahalli, Tumkur because lakes are important ecosystems that can sustain a healthy balance of aquatic life, help support our socio-economic needs and even reduce the impact of floods. Lakes in the country have suffered the most at the hands of 'modernization'. A general disregard for natural resources has been the major contributing factor to the climate crisis we are facing today. The lack of sustainable development is why the world is rapidly losing control over the condition of the environment.
Please continue to support this campaign even if it reaches its goal. Funds raised beyond that would be used to revive more lakes. We are doing this campaign in partnership with Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar. This has 80G tax benefits. Please fund this campaign generously.

IIT FOR IIT
IIT-IIT was set up with a vision to influence India’s transformation by creating a roadmap for social sector NGO programs to achieve national impact. We are Bengaluru based.
IIT-IIT believes that the need of the hour is to achieve national scale for NGO programs that would change India’s narrative (in their target market). The focus areas are Education, Healthcare, Livelihoods (including water for livelihood). Improving outcomes in these areas would provide India with an educated, healthy, and self-reliant population, accelerating the pace of India’s upward movement on the Human Development Index, in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals(SGD's).
WATER LITERACY FOUNDATION
Water Literacy Foundation is an organisation based in Bangalore, Karnataka headed by Mr. Ayyappa Masagi, whose high goal is to make India a "water-efficient nation" by raising awareness about water scarcity and establishing rainwater harvesting in all areas of India.
The Water Literacy Foundation (WLF) has organized more than 8,000+ water awareness programs so far, training the “Water Warriors” of tomorrow. Together with Rain Water Concepts (RWC) the organisations have implemented turnkey projects at over 9,000+ locations including 189+ industries, over 321+ apartments, 43 luxury villas, over 30,000+ individual houses, 233+ educational institutions and rural areas. How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
