THE PROBLEM

This issue affects the whole of  Maharashtra and is especially prevalent in Kalyan.

THE SOLUTION

We can change that with a simple, low cost and amazing innovation called the WATER WHEEL.

The WATER WHEEL allows them to carry large volumes of water with minimal effort. This saves the time energy and is a game-changer in rural areas. They can use the time saved for the betterment of their families. It also creates social change as men & boys step forward and use the WATER WHEEL to get water.

The WATER WHEEL is manufactured by Nilkamal.

The cost of each WATER WHEEL is just INR 2500, including distribution.

IMPACT

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

My name is Ahaan Shah. I am 13 years old and a Grade 9 student at the Jamnabai Narsee International School (JNIS), Mumbai.

When asked of rural India, what is the one key problem you can think of? Drought? Gender Equality? Famine? Education? All of these problems boild down to one key problem: Water. With majority of rural populations living in drought-like conditions and the only water source kilometres away, women are left to the burdening task of walking to the well every day to get water to survive.

This causes painful back aches and neck-aches, which makes productivity even post fetching water minimal. Additionally, this numbing task is always the responsibility of the woman, which causes gender bias. This campaign aims to transform the lives of dozens of women in Karjat, who are saddled with the inconvenient task of walking long distances to get water.

The Water Wheel is a thrilling innovation that has revolutionised the way transporting water works. It is a simple and revolutionary innovation which is an easy-to-use efficient transport system that can hold up to 40L of water and provides the household with enough water for at least a day. It's very durable and will last for years. It also brings about a massive behavioural change as many boys and men start using it to get water.

Together, let’s support my campaign and bring joy to women in Karjat. Water Wheels will be distributed by the team of Rotary Club of Hanging Gardens, along with their local partners. The cost for helping 1 women, is only INR 2500 per water wheel (including identifying the women, the cost of the water wheel, the actual distribution), making it truly a revolutionary idea. Let’s together impact and change the lives of these women in rural areas of Maharashtra.

FEATURES & SPECS

The WATER WHEEL is a cylindrical plastic container that can hold up to 45 litres of water. The handles help people to roll it on the ground without the physical strain that occurs while carrying water pots on head, shoulders or waist.

As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. That's transparent right.

The below image is an example of the FEEDBACK FORMAT that will be shared. (There will be a detailed report as well)

FAQs

Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Rotary Club Bombay Hanging Garden. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload the picture of the beneficiary on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes up to 2-3 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to the NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.

ATTENTION: In the video, the beneficiary speaks in Marathi. The same has been translated and quoted below;

She says "Previously, we used to carry 3 to 4 small pots every day to run the day. Having this Water Wheel would help us save a lot of time as we could fetch more water at one go. The process is quite simple and anyone from my family could now easily go and get water home. I used to get severe back pain frequently as we had to cover a long distance every day and I am hoping this invention would help reduce it definitely."
