THE PROBLEM
Life without electricity sounds torturous and unacceptable. Electricity is a basic need for all of us, but there is an astounding number of villages in India where electricity is a distant dream. In Bajidpur, Uttar Pradesh several homes live in darkness after sunset. They live in temporary huts (called jhuggis in local dialect) and live their daily lives hoping to get electricity so that they do not have to spend their evenings and nights in darkness and can get their phones charged.
Lifestyles are impacted as most work needs to be completed before sunset. People live with minimum access to news and information. Education suffers due to the limited amount of time children get to study. They do not have the basic amenities and nobody has done anything to change that.
THE SOLUTION
The Solar Home Lighting system has been custom-built keeping in mind the needs of underprivileged migrant labourers. They need a compact, sturdy, and portable lighting system which can provide them with multiple electricity points (for inside their homes and outside).
The HLS is an ingenious Made in India system which has been designed by Mr Surendar Kasav (a 30 year expert in solar energy). This system has a 10 Volt battery which is charged by solar energy throughout the day and can lighten two LED bulbs of 200 lumens for 8 hours. It has one USB port in which a mobile phone can be charged overnight. Both the solar panel and HLS are portable, so they can be moved with the direction of the sun or can be taken to the fields when they work.

ABOUT ME
I am Dhruv Chauhan, 17 years old and in Grade 12 student at the Pathways School, Noida.
I met with the people of Bajidpur and understood the problems they faced in detail. The more I met with them, the more I wanted to help them. They do not have access to electricity which is a basic necessity and nobody has done anything to change that. So I discussed this with my parents, and we narrowed it down to harnessing the power of Solar energy and they suggested I talk to my great uncle who is an expert in Solar energy. We discussed further and finalized on a custom Home Lighting system which he developed.
We have started to make a database of such homes and till now have around 80 families and the list continues to grow daily.

Gauri Shiksha Foundation is an NGO based in Delhi with a mission to create a better and sustainable tomorrow with an aim of leaving the Earth as a better place than we found it. The world is a complex place, we help navigate this complexity by understanding the bigger picture.
We are a non-profit organization that has been passionately working over the years to contribute towards the physical and emotional welfare of underprivileged community members; especially, the girl child and less fortunate families in and around the Delhi NCR region. We organize events and welfare programs that work towards child welfare, family support programs and activities that focus on the fighting against the menaces of poverty, child labour, girl child discrimination among others. We also organize food distribution for the needy on a regular basis; especially during the pandemic times.

Will we get to know the details of who benefitted?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Gauri Shiksha Foundation. We will update you on the details of the beneficiaries as soon as possible. Once we get this information we shall upload a report on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.
When do I get the receipts?
The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.
