THE PROBLEM
184,100 children and adolescents have Type 1 diabetes in India. The number of newly diagnosed children and adolescents is rising rapidly every year and diabetes is also affecting children from the lower socio-economic strata. Providing good care to the children is expensive and many children do not reach their full growth or mental capacity due to their poor health. Type 1 diabetes is a very emotionally draining problem. Parents, school teachers, friends and the children themselves have to be constantly alert to recognize when the blood sugar is too low or too high, how to manage sick days and how to help the child eat healthily.
THE SOLUTION
Type 1 diabetes has no proven cure at this time. While research is going on to find the cure, children can be treated with insulin, self-monitoring of blood glucose, screening for complications and appropriate interventions at the right time. This is being done by the Idhayangal Charitable Trust for just INR 2500 for a child per month.
IT COSTS JUST INR 30000 TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO A CHILD FOR A YEAR.

STORIES OF CHILDREN WHO BENEFITTED FROM THE INITIATIVE
ABOUT ME
My name is Umaa Maheswaran V. I am 16 years old and in Grade 11 at the CS Academy, Coimbatore.
I have started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds towards treatment of Type 1 diabetes for children from poor families in and around Coimbatore. I was shocked to learn that these children who suffer from TYPE-1 diabetes are literally fighting for survival just because they do not have the financial resources to get their daily dose of insulin injections
This kind of diabetes has no cure and it needs continuous medication. Children have to take Insulin dosage daily and periodically they have to undergo lot of medical test as well as monitor their blood parameters. This costs approximately Rs 30000 annually which is roughly Rs 2500 every month. All this costs just INR 30000/year through a massively subsidized cost.
Let me explain this in more detail.
Children with Type 1 diabetes don't produce Insulin (an important hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate the blood sugar levels). There is no cure for this. The child needs insulin to survive which needs to be replaced with insulin through injections. These children need to be given four injections every day, need to undergo number of tests through the year. They also need a device called a Glucometer and testing strips to check their insulin levels, etc.
If we all can support to raise more fund, we can help fund a child's treatment for a longer duration. This is being done in partnership with the NGO – Idhayangal.
I request all of you to support my campaign so we together can raise to ease their hardship in our own small way.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from IDHAYANGAL (this takes between 2 to 3 months usually after the funds are raised & transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign and will be in a format like the one below. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. Click on the link on the email and you can read about which child benefitted. That's transparent right.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
