Over time, they become ambassadors of organic farming in their community. This also provides employment for lower-income rural women through solar drying of organic vegetables, greens, herbs and fruits, and consequently leads to the overall improvement of the standard of living in rural areas.

TURMERIC 

The turmeric powder has a high-curcumin content (4.7%) been grown organically and is sourced directly from the farmers of Waigaon, Maharashtra. It has a strong fragrance and is a great natural immune booster. Its orangish-yellow colour is an indication of its high curcumin.

Gramonnati Trust (www.gramonnati.org) is a not-for-profit social enterprise that aims to support rural transformation through technology and entrepreneurship. Our mission is to develop 10,000 rural entrepreneurs over the next five years from amongst rural youth, women and ex-soldiers. One of the key areas of our work is to develop ex-soldiers, rural youth and women as organic farmers. It has been co-founded by three Technology professionals from Cisco and one retired Brigadier from Indian Army.

Today, we live in a fragile world, where natural ecosystems and recourses are depleting in rapid proportions. Society drifts further away from practices of preservation and renewability.  If we continue exploiting our soils and its fruits, our bodies soon reflect that abuse.

In our journey to find the solutions to these issues, we quickly learnt that they weren’t to be found in complicated textbooks and research; but rather in the hands of the rural communities that punctuate India’s landscape. The recipe to a sustainable future lay in the practices of grass-root groups and villages, that don’t often get a voice.

Thus, Gratitude Farms was born. We aim to act as an organised catalyst for rural empowerment and community-based agricultural models. With a team of professionals from the corporate and rural development sectors, our goal is to develop rural entrepreneurs and grass-root leaders to transform villages for greater self-reliance.
