THE PROBLEM
Across the country, there are millions of children who have lost their childhood to trauma. These include abandoned children and kids who have lost their parents to HIV AIDS or natural disasters such as famines, tsunamis, earthquakes, or the recent pandemic.
Bookwallah has been working towards bringing joy and hope to these vulnerable children living in orphanages and refugee camps, helping them look beyond their pasts and re-imagine a new world of possibilities. Bookwallah libraries stocked with colourful storybooks become their safe havens where they can ‘just be’, and Bookwallah volunteers become their source of warmth and support.
However, 2020 has brought our efforts to a halt leaving the children feeling lonely. This has affected their mental well-being, leading to familiar insecurities such as a feeling of abandonment, hopelessness, and depression.
THE SOLUTION
Every child deserves the hope of a happy story! Bookwallah wants to reach out to the kids with a fresh supply of hope, healing and joy.
Our goal is to distribute 100 Crate Libraries, each filled with 45 storybooks, to Shelter Homes and Child Welfare Communities across the country. We invite you to support this noble cause and help our children heal and rebuild their lives.
URJA SUPPORTS BOOKWALLAH
For over 10 years now, Urja Communications has been supporting the noble cause of healing and empowering orphan kids and children of trauma, through Bookwallah.
Bookwallah is a non-profit organisation founded by Seena Jacob, and co-founded by the CEO of Urja Communications, Ranjeet Nambiar. Urja has been offering support in areas of marketing, administration, and recruitment, in addition to sharing office space for storage of books and volunteer meetings.
This time around, Urja invites to make a small or generous donation and promises to match 30% of the amount raised.
BOOKWALLAH IN ACTION
Bookwallah not only installs libraries, but our volunteers visit the children and read stories to them. Maintenance and upkeep of the Libraries are also done by Bookwallah. During the current Pandemic times, the children are at their orphanages, with most not allowing visitors or volunteers. A few shelter homes, however, allow the volunteers to check on the place and the kids. They also assist the remote sessions through smart TVs set up by Bookwallah.

ABOUT BOOKWALLAH
Bookwallah was inspired by events in its Founder & CEO Seena Jacob’s own life where the solace of great books available in United States public libraries helped her get through some hardships. In 2010, partnering with her Founding Board of Directors, G. Riley Mills and Ranjeet Nambiar, the team visited several orphanages near the outskirts of Mumbai and Pune. They quickly discovered that many of these orphanages did not have adequate resources, proper funding and expertise to establish libraries for the children therein. However, there was clearly a need and desire. The team soon witnessed firsthand the joy and appreciation that spread across each child’s face after receiving the small gift of a book.
We, at Bookwallah, are beginning to see that our programs are having an impact and bringing about transformation. There are some incredible examples, and over the 10 years, Bookwallah has seen hundreds of kids transform into confident, positive, and full-of-life individuals.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
