THE BACKGROUND

Marginalised communities are brandished with acts of violence and poverty.  Children face violence and discrimination owing to the vague legalities of trafficking and the aspect of criminality. This has led to systemic violations of human rights such as the right to life, dignity, equality and equal protection under the law.

While acknowledging their trauma, it's important to be cognizant of the dingy physical spaces, lack of parental support and the constant judgement at school that puts an unprecedented burden on their ability to cope with trauma. With the lack of relevant skills, they are unable to sustain a running source of income and therefore indulge in unhealthy coping mechanisms.

THE SOLUTION

Light Up-Emotions Matter Foundation believes that in order to promote holistic development for a child, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) needs to be inculcated in a systematic manner, along with adequate skill development to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Project Phoenix caters to the marginalised groups of the society, like children from lower-income spaces, juvenile care homes and sex-work communities. It aims to equip them with modern-day employable skills (both technical and vocational) and be an agent of change and a role model to other children of the community. This would reduce the risk of behavioural issues and promote academic achievement, problem-solving skills and ethical decision making.

The team of mentors and fellows will support the children in their end to end transition and have been trained in the backgrounds of Psychology, Sociology, Law and Teaching. With the current issues like inaccessibility to quality mental health care and the challenges of the global economy, this initiative proves to be a stepping stone in the process of social transformation.

IT JUST COSTS INR 5000 TO IMPACT ONE CHILD FOR A MONTH.

EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE YOU CAN IMPACT

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

My name is KEYIKUMLE N. ZELIANG. I am 19 years old and in 2nd year at Delhi University.

It is very disheartening to know that there are many children in India from low-income homes who are exposed to poverty, rampant substance abuse, alcoholism, and domestic violence.

I believe that every child should have access to education and lead a happy life in a healthy environment irrespective of the communities they come from. It is important that every child should be equipped with modern-day employable skills so that they can be independent in life and come out of the vicious circle of poverty. I believe that the mentorship and guidance from Light Up-EMF will be life-changing for many children.

The fact that just INR 5000 will help one child for a month made me realise that I should do something about it.

Please support my campaign and together we can impact the lives of these children.

ABOUT THE NGO

Light Up - Emotions Matter Foundation is a New Delhi-based non-profit organization, founded by Juhi Sharma in 2017. Light Up - Emotions Matter Foundation has been dedicated to building an emotionally resilient future by transforming eco-systems of children, parents/guardians and teachers with the inclusion of social-emotional skills to recognise, understand and manage emotions to consequently reduce the impact of psychological trauma on behaviour. We have spent the past 3 years towards providing quality care to children from underserved, low-income communities and are one of the few organisations addressing Emotional Intelligence in the educational landscape. Currently, our programs are running in low-income/high-risk spaces, schools, and urban slums.

Today, Light Up is among the first few social ventures advocating the need for Emotional Intelligence in daily curricula in the country. We believe that EI is an indispensable part of the education system and thus requires adequate heed. Looking forward, we plan to transform and benefit 100,000 beneficiaries by 2030.

ABOUT IGNITING YOUTH

Igniting Youth is a youth-driven movement aimed at amplifying the voices of the young and driven minds of South Asia with the platform they need to engage in constructive activism projects.
It aims to achieve this with a 2-session, topic-specific, online conference module where attendees from diverse walks of life can delve into immersive workshops about activism, and then split into project groups where they curate unique, large scale projects creating ripples of change across their communities. Youth with diverse or unconventional backgrounds are particularly encouraged to join in to bring unique perspectives to the table.

TAX BENEFITS

Funding for this campaign is eligible for tax breaks as the NGO is a registered trust and you can avail of benefits under section 80G of the IT act.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET

To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from the NGO (this takes between 2 to 3 months usually after the funds are raised & transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. Click on the link on the email and you can read about how the funds have been used. That's transparent right.

FAQs

Will we get to know the details of who benefitted?

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Emotions Matter Foundation. We will update you on the details of the beneficiaries as soon as possible. Once we get this information we shall upload a report on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.

When do I get the receipts?

The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
This is an open forum for all funders of this campaign.
Other registered users can send their comments/ queries directly to the campaign owner as a message.
