This initiative of mine is regarding this wonderful home for the aged called "AMAZING GRACE"and the relentless passion of Ms Josephine who is an angel for the elderly and runs it.
For over 4 years I have watched Josephine struggle to accommodate elders, who have gotten sick or been thrown out of their homes. In many cases, they have been abandoned by their own children. The greed for property, money, fuels hatred and evil. Josephine has taken in as many of these abandoned people as she could. On my trips to Goa to meet my parents, I have spent much time with Josephine and the elders, consulting for them, and helping them with their health to the best of my ability.
One of my team members who is a senior clinical nutritionist and lives in Goa has also helped. Josephine's home for the elderly is currently small. She shares her own family home with the elders and she needed more space. It was decided to go ahead and expand the place so that more elders can be accommodated and also so that there were more space and room for them.
We have started the construction already. With god's grace and abundance, my family and I have managed to put in INR 35L already into the project.
The total project cost would reach INR 75 lacs. This campaign is to raise the balance amount of INR 40L. Whenever you are in Goa next you must visit this home and spend time with them. It’s a fulfilling experience. Help us build a larger and super comfortable home for these elders.
THE BACKGROUND
Amazing Grace is an assisted-living home for the elderly started by Ms Josephine D'Souza, who is a nurse. It is home to 25 elderly residents (both female and male) and continues to welcome more residents. The mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents in Amazing Grace are tended to regularly. For her committed and dedicated work, Ms Josephine D'Souza was conferred with the "Orchid Award for 2018", at the hands of Her Excellency the Governor of Goa.
As the family in Amazing Grace gets bigger, an acute shortage of space and privacy arise. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the issue as this lack of space could be extremely dangerous. To tackle this, another block is being constructed in the vacant land nearby. This campaign aims to raise funds to help construct an extension for this old age home. This will give the residents a more comfortable, SAFER and peaceful life. As you can see, the residents sleep with their beds kept close together and they all eat at a table that is a little congested.
THE SOLUTION
The new wing will more the double the area of this old-age home.
The construction involves a total of 4420 square feet of BUA (Built-up Area) across 3 floors.
Of this 1250 square ft is on the ground floor, 1250 square ft on the 1st floor, 1250 square feet on the 2nd floor and 670 square feet on the terrace. The total costs include CIVIL, PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, and CARPENTRY costs. The terrace is for an overhead tank etc. Work has already started and is being done in phases. This is being done by a local contractor at a marginal profit. There is a constraint on space to store construction material and hence the cost of labour is high as all the material has to be stored nearby and manually carried. Also, the material is being bought in small amounts as there is no effective storage area/space on the premises.
THE COST TO CONSTRUCT THIS MASSIVE EXTENSION OF 4420 SQ FEET FOR AMAZING GRACE IS INR 75L. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE ALREADY FUNDED INR 35L.
