Imagine living in a house for 10 years that is made up of tarpaulin and sticks!
The objective of my campaign is to build a home for one or more of the 14 families who are a part of the Boom Boom Matukarargal community. They currently live in a makeshift tent. The TN govt. has allotted land for them thanks to the efforts of the NGO - NGSO. It costs just INR 60000 to build one proper home including a toilet.
Let us come together and help build one home and transform the lives of one family. If we are able to raise more than INR 60000, the funds will go towards helping build more homes. So, please continue to fund my campaign even after it gets past the initial goal of INR 60000.
The govt land allotted is at Thethampattu village (Sreemushnan Taluk), Cuddalore district.
THE PROBLEM
The nomadic tribe of Boom Boom Maatukarargal's are a group of people who made/make a living by travelling from place to place with a decorated bull, entertaining and fortune telling using what is generally termed a Boom Boom Maadu (Bull). One would have come across them singing, dancing and telling people’s fortunes as they pass through villages and towns. This is usually prevalent in T.N, Andhra, Telangana and Kerala.
There is a small community of 14 such families who live in a settlement in Cuddalore ( located 3 hours from Chennai) who need help.
- Their current living conditions are pathetic and will make your stomach turn.
- They lost their original homes during a cyclone.
- They currently live in flimsy huts held up by tarpaulin and sticks.
- They do not have access to a proper toilet.
- These homes end up in a foot of water during the rains & offer no protection.
- They have been living here for 10 years.
- Their quality of life and health also suffers.
The community is trying to eke out a living during the pandemic by selling Dhrishti Bommaigal. (Dolls that ward of evil). They are barely able to make a living and do not have any financial resources. They desperately need a proper house.
THE SOLUTION
This community has been allotted land by the Tamil Nadu govt and they need to build a house on that. An NGO - NDSO has taken up this initiative to execute this.
- The Chennai-based NGO called NDSO is the one who has taken up the initiative to help all these families.
- The aim is to build houses for all members of this community.
- The families will get a house made of brick & mortar with a attached toilet.
- The homes are easy to build ( takes 30-45 days only).
- The homes are low-cost and strong.
- The govt land allotted is at Thethampattu village ( Sreemushnan Taluk), Cuddalore district.
- This will dramatically change the lives of these families.
IMPACT: Example of a family that will benefit.
ABOUT ME :
My name is SUMAN GOPALAN, I am a concerned citizen who wants to make a difference in the lives of those who need help.
I was shocked to learn about the plight of this community. Not having a permanent home and living in such deplorable conditions really pained me. I remember the joy they used to bring to me as kids and adults as we have all seen them around at our homes, during festivals with their brightly coloured clothes and their bull.
By building concrete homes, we're ensuring they at least have a proper shelter and a proper toilet for life. This will dramatically change their lives by giving them security and some permanency.
What also motivated me was the cost of the homes. The fact that just INR 60000 is what is required to change their lives is amazing. These homes can be built in 30-45 days.
Let's come together and give them a secure future with a permanent home.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
