BASIC FACT: Cataract is one the major causes of blindness in India. More than 12 million elders are visually impaired & most among them cannot afford treatment. 80% of the 12 million visually impaired in India can be cured by a simple operation. Majority of the affected people live in rural areas, while most of the eye care services and facilities are available in urban areas. Thousands of people among us lose their vision to cataract annually. This is shocking as its a completely curable condition and requires just a simple surgery.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The "NAYANTARA Restoring Sight, Restoring Life " initiative is a campaign that is being done by me and some friends as concerned citizens to give the gift of sight to the elderly poor who suffer from CATARACT problems in rural areas in and around Delhi, Gurgaon and the NCR region. All the funds collected from this initiative will go to the " VENU EYE INSTITUTE" located in New Delhi. This hospital does about 12000 (twelve thousand) surgeries a year & these funds will be used to help them do these cataract surgeries.
Cataract operations performed in metro areas in and around Delhi /NCR can typically cost between INR 8000-12000. This is the cost if the lenses used in the surgery are Indian ones. If imported lenses are used the cost can go upto INR 40000 to even 60000. The team at Venu Eye Hospital are making these surgeries available to us at a much lower cost. The cost for them works out to approximately INR 1500 only. The hospital looks towards individuals and corporate donors to help fund these surgeries. All we need to do is fund INR 1500 to enable restoration of vision to one poor person.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We are raising money to cover the cost of the cataract surgery & the smallest amount you contribute will help a person regain their eyesight. Once the campaign ends, regular updates will be posted to keep the funders abreast of the beneficiaries of the donations.

Will we get to know details of the elderly who benefited?
Yes, of course! We will definitely share who all benefited from your generous donation. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Venu Eye Institute. Venu Eye Institute will conduct CATARACT surgeries on account of Nayantara campaign. It will take from 1 to 3 months to get details of the beneficiary. Once I get this information from the team at the Eye institute, I shall upload this on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.
What are the crowdfunding charges & cost of each surgery?
Fueladream charges 10% as crowdfunding charges. There is a payment gateway fee of 2% (for both the Indian and foreign gateway) plus a GST component of 2.16%. This adds upto 14.16%. There is also an initial fee of 3000 INR which is being waived for us. With all this the funds we need to raise for a surgery are still only INR 1500.
When do I get the receipts?
It takes upto 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to Venu Eye Institute. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 weeks AFTER & and will be sent to you directly by email.
How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online.
