THE BACKGROUND

In 2020, Mumbai was showered with 3,679.8mm of rainfall. While we are safe at home, enjoying the rain, 41.3% of Mumbai lives in slums, over 10.5 million people don’t have access to proper housing. During the monsoon, the slums get flooded with water, and its inhabitants are often forced to sleep in murky, filthy water because they can’t afford a bed.

Slum-dwelling children have to spend a substantial amount of time in these horrifying conditions, where they could contact water-borne diseases that impair their growth and cognitive development.

Simple rain gear, such as raincoats, can go a long way in protecting children from diseases.

THE SOLUTION: PROJECT RAINCOAT

This is an initiative by All Care for Everyone, an NGO based out of Mumbai. It was conceived by Avantia Swali, a student from Bombay Intl. School.

The raincoat is made from polytetrafluoroethylene which has microscopic pores that large enough to allow water vapour from your body to escape, yet small enough to prevent water droplets from getting inside. Keeping dry can go a long way especially when it ensures that you can be safe and healthy. The raincoats are incredibly high quality, sustainable and unisex and will be distributed across Maharashtra

They will be given to street kids and kids in municipal schools. Geographically, they will be given in Dharavi, Sonapur, BanGanga, Kurar & Powai. The raincoats use recycled material, have a unisex design, come in 6 sizes & have cool hoodies.

All funding has 80G benefits.

Similarly,

  • If you fund INR 10000, you will help 20 children.

  • If you fund INR 20000, you will help 40 children.

THE NEW RAINCOATS

ABOUT ME

My name is Saira Singh. I am 11 years & in Grade 6 at the Cathedral School.

Rains are about playing in the rain, enjoying the weather, having hot samosas, etc. But there are many street children who are not as lucky as we are and have to bear the brunt of the harsh Mumbai monsoons. What is a boon to us, is a bane for them. Monsoons are often a time of concern for them - they get wet often, they fall ill and many of them have to venture out due to economic reasons.

Something as simple as a raincoat, will keep them safe, give them the freedom to go out without fear and keep them dry and healthier.

I was very intrigued by "The Raincoat Project" and even more so by the thoughtfully designed, high-quality raincoats that are being made by them. I am sure that those who receive it will treasure it and be proud to wear it. I request all of you to support my campaign so that we can ease the hardship of the street children in Mumbai. Let's come together and do our bit to help these children and young adults.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
This is an open forum for all funders of this campaign.
