BASIC FACTS:

A staggering 5.87 million deaths in India could have been prevented!

Yes, prevented!! These were people who came to consult doctors like us when their chronic conditions, like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, joint and back pain, depression or anxiety, cancer could have been managed better or even prevented if they understood their risks to these conditions.

This crowdfunding campaign of mine is to raise funds to conduct preventive health camps that will help those who are economically challenged from falling ill or managing a possible future illness better. We will do this in the area of MEHRAULI AND BURARI VILLAGE in New Delhi. All it takes is 25 INR to impact one person directly and this person will through word of mouth impact others. This will have a "cascading" effect on his/ her social circles leading to healthier and happier families.

My goal is to raise funds to impact 2000 + people directly. With my team members we are collectively raising funds to impact 10000 plus people. Keep continue funding my campaign even after we get past the goal as we can then impact more people.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

We are doctors and experts who believe in the power of prevention. We believe that with subtle lifestyle changes, we can stop the risk of developing chronic conditions. This is our vision behind pre2doc. You would agree, that “knowing your risks” is your “first step” towards making lifestyle changes for reducing those risks. Beyond just becoming aware of your risks, if an expert panel of doctors and mental health professionals, guide you towards making lifestyle changes that are needed, to reduce those risks, preventive health practises will be better understood and become more acceptable.

We plan to have a 1-1 sensitisation workshop (with risk profile test and if required basic blood tests) attended by around 500 people in one village, which will have a “cascading effect” and training will percolate to each family member (3-4 adults and children) so we plan to reach 2000 people through one workshop. Rs 50,000 per 2000 makes it Rs 25 per head which is 50 times less than what the villager would have to pay to meet the same specialist at a particular clinic. Effectively 5 doctors (orthopaedics, dentist, physician, cardiologist, psychiatrist) will be meeting 1 villager at just a cost of Rs 25. This is a “Cascading model of training” to empower these rural communities with preventive health practices.

The funds we raise will be required to make these workshops possible and the rural community living in Delhi’s villages will be benefitted in many ways (with knowledge of health risk information, disease symptoms and complications and how to prevent them)

FUND INR 2500 FOR EXAMPLE AND YOU DIRECTLY IMPACT 100 PEOPLE.

FACTS:

# 5.87 million deaths are because of Non communicable diseases (NCDs)

# 40–50% of the premature deaths caused by NCDs are preventable

# This needs identification and reduction of risk factors like smoking, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle, being overweight and poor diet

# Community Based Interventions (CBI) can reduce NCDs risk factors through prevention.

# What we do at Pre2doc is CBI initiatives.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:

Pic: This is me

Seven years ago, my father had 3 silent heart attacks and needed an emergency bypass operation. The first thing he asked me after waking up from surgery was “how could this happen to me?” I have been an anaesthesiologist for 10 years and I have noticed that a vast majority of patients who come to hospitals for surgery have at least 1 or 2 not well controlled chronic diseases about which they are not aware. Due to which risk of complications increases; even with simple surgical procedures (like an increased length of hospital stay, delayed wound healing, infections, critical emergencies etc.). I found that there exists a significant lack of health risk awareness amongst the public. It is very important to accept that health risks exist and to understand that they can be prevented.

The only way we can hope to change this scenario is by imparting preventive health education to all.

HOW YOU CAN HELP & FUNDS USE:

Please fund this campaign and help me get to my goal. The more funds I raise would mean the more people we can reach out to and impact. The funds will be used to launch and implement our Community Based Intervention program in the area of Mehrauli and Burari villages in Delhi.

This is home to many families, a large number of them daily wage workers, ragpickers, domestic helpers, drivers. A simple intervention from us can dramatically alter the state of their health in the days and years to come.

ABOUT PRE2DOC and the team:

Pre2doc is an acronym for “Preventive Prequel to the doctor”. We started pre2doc in August 2017 as a preventive health platform with a vision to reduce the number of preventable deaths in India due to rising chronic diseases. We are group of doctors and experts but firstly we are a group of friends who believe in a common dream, to make a healthier and well-informed India. We firmly believe change can happen anywhere and with everyone.

With our Stoptherisk initiative, we have reached out to about 800 corporate employees, teachers, students and NGO employees since January 2018 through our preventive health workshops. But all sectors of the population need to be addressed to make preventive healthcare a reality in India.

Pre2doc has 5 core team members who are currently working on the Stoptherisk initiative.

1.Dr. Salman Durrani (MBBS (Mangalore( Manipal), Diploma (Ortho), DNB Ortho peds, MNAMS, Fellow in sports medicine from Singapore) - more than 10 years’ experience in Orthopaedics. Is a practising orthopaedics consultant in New Delhi. Also our orthopaedics preventive expert.

2.Dr. Manu Mathur (BDS, Masters in Public health (London, UK), PhD in population epidemiology (United Kingdom) - more than 10 years of experience in public health and is working as an associate professor with Public Health Foundation of India. He is public health advisor for Pre2doc.

3.Dr. Farah Husain (MBBS (Mangalore(Manipal), DNB Anaesthesia) - more than 10 years’ experience in Anaesthesia. Working as a specialist in Anaesthesia in New Delhi she is the honorary advisor for research and information for Pre2doc.

4. Priyanka Ribhu (MA in psychology and specialisation in organisational behaviour) – has more than 15 years’ experience as a child’s right activist and has led global child right’s movements in the past. She is our mental health expert and Strategy advisor.

She is our Advisor for strategy and communications with Pre2doc with over a decade experience in this field.

FAQs

Will we get to know details of how the money was spent?

Yes. We shall post a report on the UPDATE section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries. The report will have images and data on the camp. You will get to know how many people were impacted and get other qualitative and quantitative data points like how many people actually attended the camp, how many took the test and how many followed up with getting basic tests done.

What are the crowdfunding charges & the cost per person?

Fueladream charges 10% as crowdfunding charges. There is a payment gateway fee of 2% (for both the Indian and foreign gateway) plus a GST component of 2.16%. This adds upto 14.16%. There is also an initial fee of 3000 INR which is being waived for us. With all this the funds we need to raise to impact one person is just INR 25

When do I get the receipts?

It takes upto 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to Pre2doc. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 weeks AFTER & and will be sent to you directly by email.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly. It is a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a Cause or Event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.

Thank you all for making the Pre2doc crowdfunding campaign a huge success. To update all our funders about the work that we have already started doing for the preventive health awareness initiative, here is a pic of our letter of approval from the Councillor in Mehrauli. Ms Arti Singh was very happy and supportive to helping us organize this much needed initiative for the residents of Mehrauli.

We hope that this initiative will bring an onset of behavioural change towards health risks and  preventive health practices. It will be a first step in reducing the number of preventable deaths due to chronic disease once we are able reach out to a vulnerable population that needs it the most, make them well informed and more educated about these chronic diseases.

Once again, thank you so much for your support. Our first preventive health awareness workshop is being planned on 1st July 2018 in Mehrauli area, which is also Doctor's Day. Team Pre2doc decided this would be an ideal day to work with the community towards their empowerment. So all the best to all of us !
