Women and girls from low-income backgrounds have been facing a massive menstrual hygiene crisis due to the pandemic. The only source of sanitary napkins for most school-going girls was from government schemes that supply them through govt. schools, which remain closed amidst the lockdown. Similarly, minimum wage daily labourers women /migrants workers and those from poor homes are unable to afford sanitary napkins as they suddenly have no or very less income. This leads to them using unhygienic methods like paper, rags, etc., and creates health problems.
THE SOLUTION
The solution is to provide reusable sanitary napkins to these underprivileged women & girls in Delhi NCR. The kit is unique as it contains 5 reusable sanitary napkins.
Each kit contains:
3 regular pads
2 maxi pads
1 travel wash bag
1 instructions manual
The napkins will last 2 years, are environment-friendly, easy to store, and most importantly cost-effective. This is being done in partnership with the NGO - Samarpan Foundation.
All funding has 80G tax benefits.
JUST INR 3000 WILL IMPACT 10 GIRLS/WOMEN FOR TWO YEARS. EACH MENSTRUAL HYGIENE PACK COSTS INR 300 INCL. DISTRIBUTION COSTS.
Not only are reusable pads safer and more cost effective for the individual, they are also safe for the community and for the environment. Since each pack replaces the use of close to 200 disposable sanitary pads, this is also a cost effective measure.

As a girl, I know how essential menstrual hygiene is for women. Girls/Women all around the world, due to lack of awareness, fail to maintain menstrual hygiene. If there is lack of hygiene, it can lead to increased susceptibility to infection and may put girls at risk of being stigmatized. In India menstrual hygiene is still considered as a taboo, due to which most of the female adolescents are not given proper sanitary pads and have to rely on cotton cloths and whatnot. Even if they are aware of sanitary napkins they still don’t buy them because of the high cost of it. The insufficient availability of sanitary pads or their high cost lead them to isolations in places where menstruation is still a taboo. To avoid humiliation and mockery, many girls stay at home from work or school, this adversely affects their education and income. As an economics student, I know how confinement of a woman for six days every month can reduce her efficiency and restrict the number of activities one can do . At this unprecedented time where daily wage earners find difficulty in arranging a two-square meal, menstrual hygiene is kept unattended.
The idea of giving reusable and biodegradable sanitary napkins to poor women has motivated me to be a part of it and be of help to them by funding their cost.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
