BACKGROUND
Blind people are often invisible or absent from mainstream society. Only by learning about one another and facilitating greater interaction between blind and sighted people can we overcome this and become a more inclusive community.
THE INITIATIVE
A group of 12 athletes have taken up the task of including persons with disabilities in outdoor activities and building awareness about cultivating a more inclusive space in the outdoors for one and all.
THE GREAT HIMALAYAN ULTRA
The Great Himalayan Ultra is the toughest ultra cycle race in India and the highest in the world. A 600 km road race starting and finishing in Leh, Ladakh. It comprises solo and relay team categories. It is held in September and is only 2 days long.
WHAT IS TANDEM CYCLING?
Tandem cycling is a method where two people peddle the cycle. Contrary to popular belief, the tandem cycle does not move if both cyclists do not peddle it. Both cyclists have to put in equal energy for the cycle to move forward. This method makes it possible for visually impaired participants to be included in the race.
THE MOTTO
The team’s bottom line is simple – the core of adventure lies in personal growth, challenging our own beliefs and pushing our boundaries! They wish to inspire more pilots and stokers to take up the sport and create awareness.

The entire team comprises 12 members. 4 cyclists which include Sanket and Arham on the tandem cycle and Sandeep and Himanshu as individual cyclists. The other members are part of the crew. Our team comprises members from different backgrounds and diversities but with one goal and that is inclusivity. Nine of us (images above) are doing this campaign.

ABOUT ME
My name is Anusha Subramanian and I am a part of the crew for the Great Himalayan Ultra Race. I am running this campaign to help spread awareness about the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the outdoors.I am an award-winning journalist, a British Chevening Scholar, Tedx Speaker and the Founding Partner in Bohemian Adventures LLP. I have nearly 3 decades of trekking and cycling experience in high altitudes and over 10 years of climbing experience. I have combined my skill sets of writing and adventure training to be able to work for the larger good of society. I am working towards building more awareness about the ‘Inclusion of Persons with Disability in the Outdoors' . I believe, “Mountains and the outdoors do not differentiate between anyone, so why is it that we differentiate among people? I have always believed that to change something, you have to be the change yourself."
I am running this campaign to help spread awareness about the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the outdoors. Arham Shaikh and Sanket Bhirud are the first-ever Tandem pair to participate in the Himalayan Ultra Race at this altitude and I intend to support them and participate in this noble cause for enabling persons with disabilities to achieve what they have dreamt of and to unfold the myriad of possibilities for them. I am working towards building more awareness about this initiative. I believe, Mountains and the outdoors do not differentiate between anyone, so why is it that we differentiate among people? I have always believed that to change something, you have to be the change yourself.

ABOUT BOHEMIAN ADVENTURES
Bohemian Adventures LLP is a company founded by three women mountaineers Anusha Subramanian, Shashi Bahuguna and Guneet Puri. The core competency of all three partners is mountaineering and hence the main focus of our business is in land-based, mountain adventure activities. Our ground operations span across the Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Kashmir and Nepal Himalaya as well as in the Sahyadri Range in the Westen Ghats. The activities we conduct include trekking, mountain climbing expeditions, skiing, rock climbing and cycling trips.
The mountains are our home and as we do what we do best here, climb and trek, we also aim to give back to our home by providing a sustainable economic scenario to its residents. In the years to come, we envision more women in the sport of mountaineering and trekking both as trek leaders and climbing guides.
One of the things that make us unique is our unflinching focus on safety in the mountains and how our 3:1 client to guide ratio and small groups translate to client-centric experiences in the mountains. Safety is of paramount importance in our company. However, what makes us truly unique is our focus on the inclusion of persons across age and gender lines as well as welcoming persons with disabilities on our treks. Our Founding Partner Anusha Subramanian has led a couple of inclusive treks and tandem cycling trips in the Sahyadri range of the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and in 2018 she also led India's first inclusive climb to Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain on the African continent.
ABOUT THE GREAT HIMALAYAN ULTRA RACE
The Great Himalayan Ultra Race is the World’s highest Ultracycle race. A 600km road race starting and finishing in Leh, Ladakh. Comprising solo and relay team categories, all racers in all categories must have a support vehicle and crew. Solo is a RAAM Qualifier for racers, finishing within the cut-off will qualify for The Race Across America. The Relay team category is RAAM style. The Races are also on the Ultramarathon Cycling (UMCA) calendar.

Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Bohemian Adventures LLP. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload the picture of the beneficiary on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert and can read details about the beneficiaries.
