Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damages in the arms, legs and skin. Leprosy is still seen as a contagious and incurable disease. India accounts for 60% of all global leprosy cases. Society continues to stigmatise people affected by leprosy. Stigma leads to irrational behaviour resulting in discriminatory practices, making them second-class citizens.
Leprosy patients are neglected and have no one to care for them. They face family rejection. In most cases they live a life filled with neglect, mental trauma and worry.
THE INITIATIVE
Sumanahalli Society is an NGO based out of Bengaluru. It is a centre/ home which brings light into the lives of leprosy patients. The society is on a mission to fight social stigma associated with leprosy and help bring hope into the lives of leprosy patients. The home currently has 80 patients and has been operating for the last 45 years. They provide a loving and secure home which will help leprosy patients lead much happier lives.
At Sumanahalli food, medical, nursing and clothing expenses are taken care of. This campaign of mine aims to help as many leprosy patients as possible and give them the much-needed hope and comfort. Just INR 5000 will support a leprosy patient for a month.
Sumanahalli Society has been recently recognised as the best NGO by the Government of Karnataka for helping leprosy patients in Karnataka.

ABOUT ME
Hi I am Ravi and have been associated with Sumanahalli Society for some time.
I have taken up this crowd funding initiative since leprosy patients find it difficult to be taken care of due to neglect and social stigma.
What truly moved me is the fact that Rs 60,000 a year can make a difference to the life of a patient with respect to their daily needs, food, medical care, and their livelihood training. This will definitely give them hope, comfort and will positively impact their lives.

ABOUT SUMANAHALLI SOCIETY
Sumanahalli Society has provided dignified life to over 11,000 leprosy affected persons through an integrated rehabilitation program consisting of education, vocational training, job placement, housing and family settlement. This is in line with the theme of Anti Leprosy Day by WHO for 2022, “United for Dignity”.
Sumanahalli has been providing support to leprosy patients living in all 11 colonies in the city of Bangalore. It has built about 600 houses for leprosy cured persons. Sumanahalli runs a school for children with leprosy, HIV and disabilities. Various vocational training programs are provided to help them get jobs. Sumanahalli has become a hub of various social activities with projects for orphans, street boys and juvenile delinquents apart from those affected by leprosy, HIV/AIDS and disabilities.
TAX BENEFITS
Funding for this campaign is eligible for tax breaks as SUMANAHALLI SOCIETY is a registered trust and you can avail of benefits under section 80G of the IT act. Foreign funding is NOT accepted.
FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from SUMANAHALLI SOCIETY (this takes between 1 to 3 months usually after the funds are raised and transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you.
