THE BACKGROUND
Millions of children from low-income and underprivileged homes find it difficult to get access to education. Even if they do the skills and subjects that they are exposed to at school are inadequate. Science, technology and engineering skills are usually lacking.
This is because schools for them do not have the infrastructure facilities, labs or teaching staff available. This means a very limited set of opportunities for them in terms of career options going forward. This increases the gap between them and the more fortunate.
It's the same in Mumbai city too with thousands of students from low-income families.
THE SOLUTION
To make this dream a reality, the Rotary Club of Mumbai Kandivali West has decided to create an Innovation Centre that will have the latest equipment, tools, gadgets etc with trained teachers. This facility can then be used to change the lives of students from underprivileged homes.
Teaching students from low-income homes about Robotics, Programming, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, 3D printing etc would not only make learning a fun activity but would also help them learn critical skills for the new generation.
The biggest challenge was space BUT luckily the Rotary has located a plot of land in Palghar. This dramatically makes the project simple to do. The innovation centre will impact 3200 students from low-income homes in Year 1 at a cost of just INR 2000 per child.
IF YOU FUND INR 6000, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU WILL HELP 3 STUDENTS AND TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES.
A total of INR 64L is required to set this up (read details below). In Year 2 the costs will come down as the only expense will be the running costs.
The cost of just the land and building would have run into a few crores in Mumbai. Thanks to the partnership with the Pancholia School they have given the land and building to the Rotary.
Part of the funds raised will also go to The Rotary Foundation India. This will be used for their programmes including providing clean water, supporting education, saving mothers & children, disaster response and more - basically for the welfare of the community.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
