THE BACKGROUND
Ranipet is a small town located about 120 km from Chennai. School and college going students in this town currently do not have access to a full-fledged centre where they get access to books, sports equipment, musical instruments etc. This has resulted in them not being able to develop skills and hobbies. As a result, they lag behind as compared to the youth from bigger cities.
I believe that being born in a small town should not be a barrier to dream big. It is with this vision, I decided to take a step to help the youth of Ranipet. This initiative will impact thousands of youth and young adults in the years to come.
THE INITIATIVE
YOUTH RESOURCE CENTRE
I am committed to helping the youth of Ranipet by creating a sustainable youth development initiative called 'Youth Resource Centre'. This comprehensive centre ensures that “No Youth Should be Left Behind”. This will be a one-stop centre for all their needs.
The centre has a built-up area of 1050 sq ft plus 15000 sq ft open ground. The total cost of the project is 10L. 80% of the work is already completed. We are raising 1.75L through this campaign to complete and bring this centre to life. This is expected to be completed by the end of August 2022.
ABOUT THE CENTRE
The Youth Resource Centre is the first such centre in Ranipet and will have books, music instruments, sports/ fitness equipment, trekking gear, photography equipment, board games, skill training etc. This will help youth develop new skills without actually having to buy the equipment. Hobby classes will also be conducted on a weekly basis. The equipment, instruments and gear can be rented at a nominal fee.
Youth Resource Centre will promote Sports, Fitness and Arts. We will have a 15000 sq feet outdoor ground facility. We need your support to complete the work and set up the ground for Cricket, Bowling,Tennis, Archery, Football etc.

You will receive credit points equivalent to the funds contributed by you. The points can then be used to access the services at the centre. If you do not require the credits, you can donate that for an underprivileged child.

ABOUT ME
My name is Rajesh Mayilvelan. I am an Aeronautical Engineer who turned into a Development Practitioner. I was recognised as India’s one of Top 30 Social Innovator in the year 2020 awarded by Youth Co: Lab, UNDP and AIM, Niti Ayog. I am the Former Student Union Chairperson and Alumni of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development.
I started this initiative because no one from my school or my town has ever become a scientist at ISRO/ NASA, Officer in Indian Army, Music Director/ Artist , International Athlete , Pilot, IAS/ IPS etc. Very few students have studied at IIT, IIM and IIS etc. The size of the town where the child is born in and the income level of the family determines the level of opportunities for the child.
I have come up with an initiative to create a Youth Resource Centre to bridge this gap and help give every child access to all facilities. This is expected to impact over 600 children and young adults in a year. The Centre will have books, music instruments, sports/ fitness equipment, trekking gear, photography equipment, board games, skill training etc. The total project cost is INR 10L. 80% of the work is already completed. I am raising INR 1.75L through this campaign.
