THE BACKDROP :
Health education teaches students about physical, mental, emotional and social health. It motivates students to improve and maintain their health, prevent diseases etc. It is critical that students are exposed to this at a young age. This will help them make healthy choices throughout their lifetime. Government schools do not have the infrastructure facilities, labs or teaching staff to support this. This results in these children not gaining sufficient exposure.
THE LIVES WE CAN IMPACT :
It is critical that we help every child get access to health education. The Rotary Health Education Centre is a huge step in this direction. This will be located at Govt Model high school, Sector 22 D, Chandigarh.
THE INITIATIVE :
My classmates are I, from Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh are raising funds to create the first Health Education Centre in India. The centre is being set-up at Chandigarh (Govt Model high school, Sector 22 D) and will have world-class facilities. The Centre shall be equipped with modern audio-visual aides, mannequins, and scientific equipment to educate govt school children. This is being done in partnership with the Rotary Club of Chandigarh, Chandigarh Administration and McMillen Health Centre, Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. The total built-up area of the centre is 8800 sq. ft.
The building will have 2 components:
1. Renovating and transforming an existing school building.
2. Building an extension (about 700 sq. ft).
The classrooms at the Health Centre will be fun, exciting and will impart experiential learning. The Centre will educate school students (Grade 1-12) who study at Government schools at zero costs. There are about 120 such schools located in and around Chandigarh.
The Rotary Health Education Centre will have 3 classrooms (accommodates 50 students each). Two hour sessions will be conducted for each batch and 2-3 such batches will be conducted per day. CBSE curriculum will be followed. Schools will bring their students during class hours which will help them get practical exposure to the lessons that are covered in textbooks.
Lessons will be taught in English and Hindi.
This centre is expected to impact an estimated 5 Lakh children over a 10-year period. (We expect 70000 to 1 Lakh students to visit per year. However there will be children who visit more than once over a 10-year period). That works out to just INR 40 per child on a INR 2 CR cost.

EXHIBITS AT THE CENTRE
The exhibits will be procured from different parts of India and abroad. For example, there is a very innovative model of the human body that uses hologram technology to educate students. This one-of-a-kind exhibit costs INR 34L and will be sourced from Italy. It will be the centrepiece of this initiative.

ABOUT ME :
My name is Rohan_Arora. I am 13 years old and in Grade 9 at the Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh.
I have undertaken this campaign because I think it is important to impact the life of a child who is probably my age and goes to a government school in Chandigarh. They are often from low-income homes. They have very little exposure at home or at school to health and the concept of health education.
The Health Education Centre is a unique and innovative 8800 square feet centre that the Rotary club of Chandigarh is creating for these children. It will have world-class facilities with exhibits, mannequins, models sourced from around the world along with classrooms. Students from govt schools can visit this and this will be an eye-opener for these students for sure. It will teach them about health, the human body and get them to become healthier and also will drive huge interest in the sciences.
The teachers and staff at the centre will be well-qualified and will be trained by the team at the Mc Millen Health Centre in the USA which already has such a centre running in the USA. This is a very innovative centre that exposes children to concepts about the human body and health.
The total cost to set it up is approx INR 2 CR or slightly more. Over a 10-year period it is forecast to impact approx 5L children. (The number estimated is about 70K to 1L per year. However, there will be children who visit more than once over a 10-year period). That works out to an amount of INR 40 per child. So if you fund INR 4000 you potentially impact 100 children. Similarly, INR 10000 impacts 250 children over a 10-year ago.
Please fund my campaign as a simple act of kindness on your part can have a profound impact on the lives of lakhs of students from govt schools in and around Chandigarh.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
