Rajkumar Rai lovingly known as Raju was an associate, a caretaker, driver, cook, and man Friday. He was an amazing human being, full of hope and life. He never stopped being a loving husband, a caring father, a dependable friend and a sincere employee till his sudden demise at the end of June 2022 put an untimely, unfortunate and tragic end to his life. 

He was just 38 years old and his passing has created a crisis for his family !

Rajkumar is survived by his wife Babita, two school-going children, Saurabh (17) and Kajal (15) and his aged mother. They reside at Jamwatpur in New Delhi. Raju was also looking after his deceased sister's 5 children that included 4 teenage daughters. Raju was just 38 years old. He used to drive an ambulance at an eye hospital and collapsed after reporting for work on the fateful day.

Raju has been the sole caretaker of his sister's 5 children after his sister and her husband died 5 years ago.

His son Saurabh was his pride and he struggled but managed to educate him in an English medium school. Saurabh is in the 12th grade and dreams of becoming a graphic designer. Raju was also planning his eldest niece's marriage.

Now, with 7 children to care for and no source of income, his wife Babita is in dire straits! 

Let’s get together and extend immediate financial support to his family in this hour of need. This campaign aims to raise INR 10L at least. The more we raise the better. The funds raised will be put into Fixed Deposits which will be useful for Raju's wife, children and nieces.

The least we can do as colleagues, friends and fellow human beings is extend a helping hand and contribute in raising a sizeable fund together to give some reprieve and breathing space to the family. The fund will take care of their immediate needs and give them time to re-collect and organize themselves. Let's help them secure their today for them to fight back for their better tomorrow themselves. This will make a big difference to his family. The funds we are raising will  be used mainly for the kids' education and other costs. So please continue funding till the last day irrespective of the amount we raise, as the more we collect the more breathing space the family has financially.

ABOUT ME

My name is Sanjoy Mukerji. I have been in the corporate world for over 30 years now with the likes of Pepsico, Vodafone, iClinic and now as the Group CEO at Dr Batra's.

Raju worked for me and my start-up company iClinic Healthcare in New Delhi and also helped many of my friends and family.

"Raju Bhaiya" as he was universally known, had selflessly helped and served so many and for nothing but a smile and a thank you. Even after I moved to Mumbai, my daughter and many friends continued to seek and get Raju's help for any and many of their issues.

With his demise, the family is undergoing something which they would have never dreamt off. His wife and children need our help for a brighter future. His sisters family also looked up at him as their only support. Let us all come together and help these families during these difficult times.

Rajkumar's family has lost the battle on both fronts which is his life and a brighter future for them. We all dream when we live but the dreams don’t die along with us, dreams do live on. He still dreams on through the eyes of his family and his dreams are not too unrealistic either. Proper education for his children/nieces and some support for his family is what we aim to achieve through this initiative. 

IN SUMMARY

The dignified human being that Rajkumar was, he would have loved to contribute and enable better lives for others in a similar situation. Let us all do our bit and give his family the support they deserve. Our little support will make a big difference to Babita, Saurabh and Kajal. It will help his sons with their schooling and help make these young teenagers become capable, independent, and sensitive adults. They would have it in their DNA to give it back to the society that supported them once.

FUNDS AND FUNDS USE

We (ie all of Raju's immediate well-wishers) decided that, rather than transfer the money to Raju's wife Babita, who is rather illiterate and helpless right now, we should invest the money in FD's (Fixed deposits) for the kids. This will also prevent extraneous relatives from misusing the funds.

 
Anushri Roy, a colleague in Vodafone will help Babita open a joint account so that the needful can be done for ensuring the funds are duly invested. Anushri is in touch with Raju's family since one of his nieces works at her home.  However, this process of opening an account will take a month. Hence rather than wait, we thought that if the funds are received in Orpita's largely unused account, the subsequent transfers will become easier.
