THE PROBLEM :
Malnutrition is a massive issue across India and surprisingly in many pockets of Mumbai city too. The areas of Jogeshwari and Marol in Mumbai have a very large number of such children who are malnourished. These children come from the VAIDU community.
This community is originally tribal and has migrated to different parts of Maharashtra and Mumbai. In Mumbai, there are 14 pockets (Jogeshwari and Marol/Aarey area are 2 of these pockets) with about 2000 of them in each pocket/area. The parents earn a meager income as domestic help (mothers work as maids) and clean gutters and sewage (men work in this profession). Poor health of the parents, low incomes, low literacy rates, and the inability to provide enough food has resulted in their children suffering from MALNUTRITION.
PIC : Actual image of the home of a family at Jogeshwari. The father in this case is alcoholic and bedridden. The mother is the only wage earner here.
They are either stunted which means that they are not growing in height and weight as per their age. Some of them are undernourished (their weight is not comparable to their age and height). These children need nutritional supplement support and also clinical observation for any vitamin deficiency and illnesses related to that.
Imagine a 2-year-old child who weighs just 5kgs!
THE SOLUTION :
The Rotary Club of Bombay is planning to give these kids MEAL BOXES every month to focus on fixing this issue. There are about 1500 children who need this across the 2 pockets of the Jogeshwari and Marol/Aarey colony. The cost of the meal box and monitoring the health of these children is just INR 4600 per annum. This will be done in partnership with The DECIMAL FOUNDATION which is Mumbai based. They have an initiative called 'The Breakfast Revolution (TBR)' to help identify and distribute meal boxes to these children.
This makes a dramatic impact on the health and wellness of the children over time. These meal boxes are given every month for a year to families of children who have been identified as "Moderate Acute Malnourished" (MAM).
The project POSHAK AAHAR ( पोषक आहार) aims to distribute nutritional food supplements to such families for a continuous period of 12 months. Each box has 30 different sachets ( 7/8 different products designed by specialists) to be given daily. Distribution is done once every month. It costs just INR 4600 per year (incl. last-mile distribution).
Fund this campaign and bring smiles to the children of the VAIDU community.

ABOUT ME
My name is Agastya Mundhe. I am 13 years old and in Grade 8 at The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai.
I was shocked and surprised to learn that even in a city like Mumbai “ MALNUTRITION” is prevalent and impacts thousands of children. Several low-income communities are fighting the long-term ill effects of malnourishment.
It was also a pleasant surprise to learn that It just takes INR 4600 for an entire year to drastically improve the lives of a malnourished child with a POSHAK AAHAR - Food supplements in a MEAL BOX. This is an initiative being done by the Rotary Club of Bombay. These supplements are given monthly.
I request all of you to support my campaign so that we can also contribute to their well-being in our own tiny little way. This campaign aims to provide food supplements to malnourished children from the VAIDU community (Tribal Community) who reside in the slums of the Jogeshwari and Marol/Aarey colonies.
Let's come together and do our bit to help a child have a better life.

ABOUT THE DECIMAL FOUNDATION AND TBR
In India, The Breakfast Revolution (TBR) is the main program under the Decimal Foundation, a registered non-profit Charity Trust (80G) in Mumbai. TBR is specifically created to combat the epidemic of hunger and malnutrition in India. We have been on an aggressive path to reach the most deserving populations with high-quality, nourishing meals.
The basic mission of TBR, founded in 2014, is to combat malnutrition among children in India. The problem of malnutrition is so acute that it is responsible for 1 in 2 child deaths in India! Also, 1 in 3 malnourished people in the world is from India. India performs worse than most Sub-Saharan and S. Asian countries in Nutrition Indicators. The problem exists not because of a lack of food, but because of a lack of essential nutrients – vitamins, minerals, protein, and fats in the food consumed, because of a lack of awareness about hygiene and nutrition as well as poverty.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
