THE BACKGROUND
Elaya Valavan, is a 20-year-old who hails from a remote village called Nallavur, in the Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. He has been a hard working and brilliant student. He always wanted to be a doctor but never thought that his dream could be a reality until he secured admission into a professional course to pursue his dream MBBS degree. He got admission through sheer hard work and determination into the Melmaruvatur Adiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MAPIMS) for the year 2022-2023 and has joined the college.
This college is located about 92 kms from Chennai in the Villupuram district of TN.
His father Elangovan, works at a private company in Pondicherry that deals with supply of water cans as a loader. He earns a paltry salary that hardly supports the livelihood of the family of five. His mother was down with cardiac ailments right from her childhood. His younger brother is mentally challenged and requires constant support and monitoring. His younger sister is studying in Grade 12 at the same school, walking several kilometers a day, with the same commitment that her brother has. They live in a thatched hut that opens to the skies during torrential rains and often as a family are unable to eat a square meal.
Today, in spite of having secured a Government quota seat, Elaya Valavan, is unfortunately stressed as he may be forced to drop out of college because of his inability to pay the entire fee.
The total fee per annum is INR 7.7L. This includes a tuition fee of INR 4.9L. Getting a Govt quota seat has its advantages - out of the tuition fees of INR 4.9L per year a large chunk of INR 4.5L is taken care of by the Government of Tamil Nadu. His father has been able to raise a loan of Rs.1.40 lakhs at a very high interest rate for the first year's fee. There is still a deficit of fees to be paid.
Ilayavalavan is still short of funds to pay the rest of the fees for books, periodicals, hostel fees, transportation and student welfare costs. His family does not have the financial resources to pay the entire fee. What does he do now ?
THE SOLUTION :
I am running this crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to pay for his fees of approx INR 2L for the first year. This is for Year 1 !
What about Year 2 and Year 3 and Year 4 and Year 5? He needs to pay an annual amount of INR 3.2L for the next 4-years (Total fee is INR 7.7L less the INR 4.5L the govt pays). This over four years amounts to another INR 12.8L.
He will need a total funding of INR 15L to pay the entire fee for 5 years and become a doctor. Through this crowdfunding campaign we first want to raise enough for his first year. The more we raise the longer we can support him.
Together let’s unite to MAKE IT POSSIBLE to support one Elaya Valavan and make him Dr Elaya Valavan. He will grow up and support several others. The funds collected will be sent directly to the college bank account. (See letter from the college below).

ABOUT THE MEDICAL COLLEGE :
Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MAPIMS) was established in 2008. The Hospital attached to the college has been run from the year 1986, providing health care services to the surrounding villages for more than 30 years. People belonging to the poor socio economic group of the nearby 750 villages including agricultural laborers are getting various health care services from our Hospital.
The Institute is situated in Melmaruvathur near National Highway (NH-45), about 92 km from Chennai and about 70 km before Pondicherry. The Institute is managed by Adhiparasakthi Charitable Medical, Educational and Cultural Trust, Melmaruvathur,Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India.
