THE BACKDROP :
Thiruvallur is a small town located 45 km from Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Thiruvallur is situated in the northern part of Tamil Nadu and the population is around 20L. There are also several backward villages around this town. It is alarming to note that there is no dialysis facility that can provide treatment for kidney patients in this area. Most dialysis patients have to travel at least 25-30 km for treatment. This results in patients getting very exhausted and causes adverse effects on them.
End-Stage Renal Disease ( ESRD) is a condition where the "KIDNEYS" do not function. The only solution for those with this kidney issue is dialysis or a kidney transplant. Kidney transplants are too expensive.
There is an urgent need to set up a dialysis centre in Tiruvallur and help save thousands of lives.

THE INITIATIVE :
We, the members of The Madras Metro Round Table 95 and Madras Metro Ladies Circle 70, are raising 112 lakhs (cost of the project) to create a dialysis centre in Thiruvallur. This dialysis centre is will be set up close to the Tamil Nadu General Hospital. The Centre will have 6 dialysis machines and will provide excellent treatment to the patients. This will be managed by Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Relief Foundation Trust. They currently manage 100 dialysis centre across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The land is 2000 sq feet and the total built-up area will be 2100 sq ft. The land and building have been donated by a Trust.
The cost per dialysis in private hospitals will be between INR 1200-1400. The centre will make this available at a subsidised rate of INR 400.

My name is ROSHAN KUMAR. I am a member of the Madras Metro Round Table 95.
End-Stage Renal Disease ( ESRD) is a condition where the kidneys do not function. The only solution for those with this kidney issue is dialysis. Dialysis is one of the first technological innovations in medicine - and the only treatment that does not involve transplant, and yet allows a patient with end-stage organ failure to live long healthy, and productive lives. Dialysis removes the “waste” chemicals that accumulate in the blood because the failed kidneys are unable to excrete them.
Unfortunately, there are thousands of people in and around Thiruvallur who do not have access to dialysis. They are forced to travel many kilometres for treatment which causes adverse effects on their health.
This initiative of mine is to help set up a dialysis centre in Thiruvallur. The total cost of the project is 112L (1.12 Cr). This will impact thousands of patients in the coming years. The centre will have a built-up area of 2800 sq ft close to the Tamil Nadu General Hospital.
