THE BACKGROUND
Millions of children from low-income homes find it difficult to get access to education. Even if they do, the skills and subjects that they are exposed to at schools are inadequate. Science, technology and engineering skills are lacking.
Their schools do not have the infrastructure facilities, labs or teaching staff. This results in underprivileged children not being exposed to STEM. They do not get practical understanding of the concepts they learn in textbooks. This increases the gap between them and the more fortunate.
THE INITIATIVE
PROJECT STEAM: We, a group of 5 students from Nashik have started this initiative to help underprivileged children learn better. We aim to conduct week-long STEM workshops for underprivileged children in Nashik. The extensive workshops will be conducted this summer in 3 municipal schools - Government Girls High School, Manapa school No. 43, and Manapa school No. 47 in Nashik. We have spoken to the Principals and they have given us permission to conduct the workshop. The cost to conduct the workshop in one school is INR 30000 and would cost INR 90000 for 3 schools. A total of 200 students across these 3 schools will benefit. The more funds we raise the more students we can impact.
IT COSTS INR 900 TO HELP 2 STUDENTS ATTEND THE WORKSHOP.
Project STEAM aims to explain various concepts included in the SSC curriculum of the Maharashtra board via various practical activities that will be fun and exciting. This will encourage underprivileged students to take interest in STEM.
A GLIMPSE OF THE SCHOOLS
WHAT WILL THE STUDENTS LEARN?
Examples:
Circular model of fractions to explain the trends in changing numerator and denominator in fractions.
For the improper fraction 17/6, take a box for the base of 6 blocks. Layer on the 17 blocks, filling the lowest layer first. After completion, the number of layers is the whole part of the fraction and the number of blocks in the topmost layer is the numerator.
Using different colours of modelling clay blocks representing a fraction, which can then be cut into smaller blocks or smaller blocks can be put together by the same ratio (eg. if we started with 1/2, the blue bit represents the numerator and the red- denominator. These are then both cut into half to give us the fraction 2/4) to explain equivalency.
ABOUT ME
My name is ARUSH PATIL. I am 16-years-old and in Grade 11 at The Fravashi International School, Nashik.
I have undertaken this campaign because I think it is important to impact the life of a child who is not as fortunate as I am. Children who go to municipal schools do not have access to practical learning. These schools do not have the necessary resources and teachers to provide practical exposure to their students.
Through Project STEAM, we aim to conduct week-long STEM workshops for children who are not as fortunate as us. It costs just INR 450 to help one child attend the workshop. This will help them understand their lessons better and also encourage them to take interest in STEM. The cost to conduct this workshop in one school is INR 30000. We aim to do this in 3 different schools.
Please fund my campaign as a simple act of kindness on your part can have a profound impact on a child's life.

ABOUT THOSE ARCHAIC FLAWS
“Those Archaic flaws” incipiently focused towards providing a platform for all kinds of progressive discussions. We have had multiple articles from a diverse group of youngsters put up on our website. Now, we are working on a “STEAM” project where we are trying to devise a curriculum that incorporates art to explain STEM. This would then be beta-tested at municipal schools where the dropout rates are fairly high. Hoping our effort can raise the interest of these students in streams related to STEM!
FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency, we will post feedback about 2-3 months after the campaign is completed. A report on the workshops conducted along with the pictures will be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign. As soon as the update has been posted to the platform you will also get an EMAIL alert to you. Click on the link and you can read about the details. That's transparent right?

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
