Inadequate cancer pain management deprives individuals of their human right to access pain relief. The World Health Organization emphasizes the need for quality care using a three-step approach, involving appropriate medications and adjuvants, administered regularly to achieve maximum pain relief with minimal side effects. Implementing this cost-effective approach can alleviate 80-90% of cancer pain, ensuring patients' well-being.
THE PROBLEM:
One of the main challenges is the lack of availability, accessibility, and affordability of oral morphine, which is the gold standard for relieving cancer pain. This issue particularly affects poor patients who may not have access to the necessary medications.
As a result, many individuals with severe cancer pain are not receiving adequate pain relief, impacting their quality of life and overall well-being.
THE SOLUTION:
CANSUPPORT is a multidisciplinary team that provides holistic home-based palliative care, focusing on pain relief and symptom control, psychosocial support, patient education, and family empowerment. Their approach considers the patient's total pain experience, tailoring a management plan that includes physical pain management using the WHO pain management ladder. CANSUPPORT request for a grant of Rs 6.00 lakh would enable them to purchase oral morphine and other essential pain management medicines, benefiting approximately 400 patients and alleviating their moderate to severe cancer-related pain. This initiative plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life for patients and their families. The typical cost for medicine for one patient is only INR 1000.

ABOUT ME AND THIS CAMPAIGN
My name is Gautam R.N. Jetley and I am a 3rd year student at IIT Guwahati.
The hopes, dreams, and goals of a person could shatter like broken glass with the mention of just one word - ‘Cancer’.
Cancer is the second most common disease in India responsible for maximum mortality. And most of these deaths are due to a lack of reliable information followed by proper treatment. We could change that.
I aim to raise 50,000 or more to fund CANSUPPORT, an organization aiming to help more cancer patients in their pain relief management.

OUR PARTNER
We provide home-based palliative care in 4 states of India. DELHI: 21 Teams in All 11 Districts, HARYANA: 4 Teams (Palwal, Faridabad & Gurgaon), UP: 4 Teams (Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar & Greater Noida) and PUNJAB: 3 Teams (Amritsar, Gurdaspur & Bathinda). Our home care teams of doctors, nurses, and counselors visit the patients at their homes and render care. We have 32 such teams operating from 15 centers. Currently, we look after 2300 patients at any point in time. We are the largest home-based palliative care service provider in North India. We also have two Outpatient Clinics for pain and symptom management, Day Care centers along with peer support groups, and Telephone Helpline. All these services are free of charge for our patients.
The cost of one home care visit costs INR 1000, one patient generally receives 10 visits before the treatment and visit ends so INR 10000 will cover the home care cost for one person.
This money allows CanSupport to provide families with factual information to help them make informed decisions for themselves, pain relief for the patient, nursing care and medical assistance counseling and emotional support for the patient and their families, financial and legal support as well as help with any other issues the family find themselves facing.
