THE BACKGROUND AND THE CONTEXT:

Pediatric liver transplant refers to the surgical procedure of replacing a diseased or damaged liver in a child. The replacement is done with a healthy liver from a deceased or a living donor. It is a complex and specialized procedure performed in children who have end-stage liver disease or liver failure. There are very few public hospitals performing transplants. More than 95% of transplants are currently performed in the private sector.

Liver transplants are very expensive - from INR 20 to 30 Lakhs is the cost usually. Children who come from low-income homes are unable to afford this. So how can we help children who need this life-saving transplant?

The Chennai-based NGO - MOHAN partners with hospitals across the country and is able to help children by doing these surgeries at a much lower cost of approx INR 12L. In addition, there are some government subsidies and other donors who chip in.

THERE IS A FUNDING GAP OF INR 3L WHICH IS ENOUGH TO SAVE A LIFE !!

Parents from poor homes cannot afford even this. This crowdfunding campaign of mine aims to raise funds to support children from poor homes by supporting their transplants. I and many other of my fellow students are coming together to raise as much as possible.

We will together be able to save the lives of many children and bring cheer to the lives of their families. Children like Goutham for example - read his story below.

THE SOLUTION:

MOHAN Foundation is a not-for-profit, registered non-government charity organization in India that works in the field of deceased organ donation and transplantation. MOHAN is an acronym for Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network.

The MOHAN Foundation through their 'Anudaan' initiative is helping these children from low-income homes receive their life-saving surgeries. The NGO has already supported 30 pediatric surgeries since 2021 across India. It costs INR 3L to support one child. The beneficiaries of this initiative will be children from families who earn less than 3L annually.

My schoolmates and I from the DPS, Bangalore North are committed to saving the lives of these children. Each of us is raising as much as possible to help these children.

If we together raise:

  • INR 3L, we save a life.

  • INR 9L, we save 3 lives.

  • INR 27L, we save 9 lives.

All funding has 80G tax benefits.

The liver transplants will be done at 2 hospitals in Bengaluru:

1. Aster CMI Hospital, Outer Ring Road

2. Manipal Hospital, HAL Old Airport Road

THE PROCESS

THE IMPACT YOU CAN MAKE: WE CAN TOGETHER CHANGE THE LIFE OF CHILDREN LIKE BHASKAR.

ABOUT ME AND THIS CAMPAIGN:

My name is Anuskha Aryan Jha. I am 16 -years-old and a Grade 11th student at DPS, Bangalore North.

The plight of children from low-income families who cannot afford liver transplants is unimaginable. The families usually give up hope and all they can do is pray for a miracle. But together, we can make a difference.

I firmly believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right, and it should not be limited to those who can afford it. By contributing to this campaign, you have the power to save lives and provide these children with a new life and a bright future. Just INR 3L will help save a life. My classmates and I are raising funds to give the children and their families a fresh lease of life. The surgeries will be done at Aster CMI Hospital and Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.

I sincerely request you support me in this endeavour so that we can help save the lives of these precious children. Together, we can bring hope, joy, and a chance for a healthier tomorrow to these children and their families.

ABOUT MOHAN FOUNDATION:

A pioneering NGO with a unique mandate of promoting deceased organ donation in the country, the MOHAN Foundation was set up in 1997 in Chennai. It took up the cause of organ donation at a time when no one in the country was talking about it and the environment was hostile towards this highly taboo topic and therefore has been a torch bearer in this space.

Its unique mission is to ensure that every Indian that is suffering from end-stage organ failure, is provided with the gift of a new lease of quality life through a lifesaving organ.

Taking a 360-degree approach the Foundation has been relentlessly working to create awareness of organ donation amongst the public & healthcare workers, training medical and paramedical professionals, working with hospitals to set systems to enable organ donation, and working closely with State and Central Governments to create a strong ecosystem for organ donation.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
