THE BACKGROUND:

Gautam Basti is a serene village nestled in the Karbi Anglong District of Assam. The district is home to over a million people and the majority of them are temple-going citizens.

There are three sacred temples that this community goes to - a Durga Mandir, a Hanuman Mandir, and a Vyshnavi Mandir. In addition, a vibrant community hall stood as a gathering place for various events and functions. Gautam Basti was born from the dreams of resilient souls from Nepal and Burma who found refuge in Assam, India. All of them carry the vibrant tapestry of their culture and unwavering Hindu faith in spite of the trials and challenges they face.

THE PROBLEM:

In 2018, the Government of India sanctioned a national highway project that went through Gautam Basti. As a result, the temples and the community hall had to be demolished to make way for this development.

The demolition of the temple has deeply impacted the people of Gautam Basti, leaving them disconnected from their source of divine blessings and spiritual solace. With the only temple in the area demolished, they now face a void in their daily lives. The nearest Durga temple is located an hour away, making it crucial to construct the new temple complex to restore their access to sacred worship and community gatherings.

THE SOLUTION:

The Durga Mandir Trust has taken the decision to construct a unique temple complex that will house all the Vigrahas in one centralized location. This thoughtful initiative will have state-of-the-art facilities and will have a positive and enriching impact on the entire community. It will provide a remarkable experience for all visitors.

This new Durga Temple marries traditional, modern, and regional elements and has a one-of-a-kind design.

The visionary design of the new Durga Mandir aims to create a welcoming space that embraces the entire community, encouraging active participation and utilization of the diverse facilities offered.

With careful planning, the Community Pavilion at the new temple is being constructed as a spacious gathering space that will serve as a vibrant hub for joyous celebrations, cultural events, and religious ceremonies. Designed with versatility in mind and offering ample space, it will be an inclusive environment where diverse community activities thrive, fostering a strong sense of unity and togetherness among all who visit.

My name is VIVEK JAIN. I am a concerned citizen. This campaign of mine is to support the construction of a magnificent Durga Temple in Gautam Basti, Assam.

I came to know that the Government of India's highway project had demolished the sacred temples and the community hall, I knew that I had to step forward and contribute to the visionary Durga Temple complex. This unique project, marrying tradition, modernity, and regional elements, promises to be a beacon of hope and healing for the entire community.

As I join hands with the Durga Mandir Trust, my heart swells with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a noble cause. I firmly believe that by uniting our efforts and resources, we can make a profound impact on the lives of the villagers in Gautam Basti. The total cost of constructing the Durga Temple is INR 4.52 CR.
