THE BACKGROUND :
Childhood blindness is a significant public health concern worldwide. India is home to 9.3 million visually impaired and 2,70,000 blind children. In India, blind children face numerous challenges when it comes to education. One of the primary barriers to education for visually impaired children is the lack of resources and accommodation.
These children are neglected and are sometimes abandoned. They do not get a chance to study and achieve their dreams. They may also face discrimination and stigma in society, making it harder for them to access education.
THE INITIATIVE :
The Captain Chandan Lal Special Middle School for the Blind is a residential school in Behrampur, Gurgaon, Haryana established on 1st August 1994. The school is run by the All India Confederation of the Blind.
This school helps 111 visually impaired boys and girls (as of March 2023) from the preschool stage to Grade 8.
It costs just INR 6000 to support a child for a month.
(This includes education, stay, food, clothing, and more).
THE COMPUTER LAB:
Assistive technology (AT) for students with visual impairments has evolved rapidly and continues to progress. Computers have native screen readers or screen reader software and more educational apps are being created to help them for easy access.
The computer lab helps the visually impaired children in many ways. It helps them to learn how to operate computers and to learn more about other applications in the computer especially for grades 2-8. Visually impaired students of class 8 also appear in the exam through computers.

About 100 students learn computer skills and at present, they have 18 computers in the computer lab out of which few remain out of order. Some classes have more students and all do not get computers. Therefore the school requires more computers for the lab. The new computers will help and impact visually impaired children to learn and improve their skills. One computer will cost at least INR 30,000 (including the whole system, speakers, and the software that needs to be installed for the visually impaired.)

ABOUT ME :
My name is Arnav Madan. I am a 16-year-old, Grade 11 student, at K. R. Mangalam World School, GK 2, New Delhi.
My campaign is driven by the belief that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and achieve their aspirations, regardless of their visual impairment. I am committed to breaking down the barriers that visually impaired children encounter in their pursuit of education and personal development.
All India Confederation of Blind (AICB) has been running a special school in Behrampur, Gurugram, and providing education for visually impaired students for last over 10 years. To my surprise, the students were very receptive, and their level of awareness was truly exceptional, especially given their circumstances. They had the hunger to learn, the longing for knowledge, and the desire to overcome their adversities and succeed in life.
Through this campaign, I intend to raise funds for the visually impaired children of the school to support their education, a place to stay, food, medicines, and improve their computer skills. I would be happy if, through my efforts, I could transform their lives and help them have a better future.
