THE PROBLEM:
Girls and women in the tribal and rural belts of Maharashtra, face a stark future as their household incomes are low and employment opportunities are few. Specifically in the Palghar district (located about 100 kms from Mumbai) the situation is rather grim. The background is as follows :
- Increased poverty levels in the tribal areas of Palghar is a challenge. Located just 3 hours from Mumbai this is a very backward and hilly area with no significant industry or livelihood for rural folk.
- Many poor families are financially stressed simply because young girls and women do not have any proper skills to earn a living or make a livelihood.
- Many girls and women in economically poor families are keen to work and earn to improve their household income.
- Many of these families face a grim future financially and every day is a struggle.
- There are thousands of such young girls and women who need assistance of some kind so that they can earn a livelihood and enhance their earnings.
THE SOLUTION:
The solution is to teach them tailoring and also give them a sewing machine so that they learn a life skill and have a livelihood.
Through this campaign, we aim to support such young girls and women and help them stand on their own feet and achieve financial independence. This will have a cascading effect on the well-being of their families. They have SIBLINGS, CHILDREN and ELDERLY who depend on them. This will help them generate sufficient income to become financially sound and impact their day to day lives - they can send kids to school and invest in their future, provide their families with 3 wholesome meals a day and become economically independent.
The Rotary Club of Bombay Hanging Garden and the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Hanging Garden are partnering with the SAMTA FOUNDATION to execute this initiative. They are committed to helping these young girls and women. They will provide fashion design and tailoring expertise plus provide sewing machines to these young girls and women upon completion of the training. Each young girl and woman would receive a kit consisting of a sewing machine and a stand.
They would then be able to set up a small business by building a customer base in their own locality stitching daily wear items like blouses, salwar kameez, frocks, etc.
The cost to impact one girl/woman is just INR 7500

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
ABOUT ME AND THIS CAMPAIGN:
My name is DHURTEESH RUPANI. I am 10 years old and in Grade 6 at the Mount Litera School International (MLSI), BKC, Mumbai.
I am doing this campaign to help these young girls and women and give them a livelihood. The beneficiaries are mainly in the Palghar district of Maharashtra (located about 100 kms from Mumbai). This will give them a sustainable livelihood by providing them with suitable training in fashion and giving them sewing machines. This will completely transform their lives and also impact their families.
The fact that it costs just INR 7500 to impact a girl/woman is amazing. I was surprised to learn that with just this much, they can have a sustainable livelihood. Through this campaign, I aim to transform the lives of many young girls and women and their families. This will make them financially independent and impact their families for generations to come.
Please support my campaign and let us together transform their lives.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
