THE PROBLEM
The Zilla Parishad School is located in Chimbipada - a village in the rural North Bhiwandi taluka of Thane district. The school is owned by the Zilla Parishad of District Thane, and run by the local Chimbipada Gram Panchayat in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is situated in a hilly region and is known for its remote and isolated location. The people of Chimbipada belong to some of the most underprivileged and marginalized communities. The school has a capacity of 200 students but because of its poor condition, parents are not sending their children here. At present only 55 students from Grades 1 to 8 study here.
The school classrooms, buildings, infrastructure, wash areas, etc. are in a state of neglect. For children, it’s a depressing environment that is unsafe, unhealthy, and not conducive to learning. This negatively affects the attendance, health, and education of the students.
The Principal, Mr. Sudhir K. Joshi, and the teaching staff are liked by the students. They are very keen that the school be restored so that they can have a vibrant school with 200 students.
Would you as a parent dream of even sending a child to a school that looks like this?

There is an urgent need to dramatically improve the infrastructure of this school to ensure a safe, secure, and healthy learning environment for the students.
THE SOLUTION - THE “ ADOPT A SCHOOL” INITIATIVE :
The Learning Space Foundation is a Palghar-based NGO that has been working to improve the quality of education across rural and tribal areas of Palghar and Thane districts.
They received a request from this school to help them out. With their extensive knowledge and expertise, they decided to assist the school administration and help with the restoration of the school. The aim is to transform the school building and infrastructure, which is in a very vulnerable state, into a secure, attractive, and happy learning place.
This project will ensure a safe and productive school life for the students and also help them reach their full potential and become ”change-makers” in the community. It will be a school where students can learn and be happy while learning.
All of us need to come together so that we can raise funds to complete this project and renovate the school. That is why this is called the “ADOPT A SCHOOL” initiative.
ESTIMATED EXPENSES :
Below is the estimate of the basic cost of transforming this school.
ABOUT ME :
My name is Torsha Dasgupta. I am 17 years old and a Grade 11 student at JBCN International School, Oshiwara, Mumbai.
I am running this crowdfunding campaign to transform the Zilla Parishad School located in North Chimbipada, Thane District.
I was very surprised and shocked to see the images of the school building, classrooms, and common areas and wondered how children are able to study in such an environment. Making the school and classrooms bright, cheerful, and safe and providing them with hygienic washrooms, etc will completely transform it.
Through this campaign, my fellow students and I, aim to transform this school so that students who come here, learn in a better environment and look forward to coming to the school. This will help the students reach their potential and leverage their education to build a career and life for themselves. It will impact their attendance, health, education and create a more positive environment for them to learn and be taught.
