THE BACKDROP:

Theatre festivals are organized to showcase the talents of local and international theatre artists and provide a platform for them to connect and collaborate. These festivals can also be used to raise awareness about important social issues, promote cultural exchange and understanding, and create opportunities for education and enrichment. Theatre has the power to delve into the cultural intersections that exist among young people, their histories, and their expressions.

Shudrka Hyderabad and the Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana aim to provide a platform for budding theatre artists, especially those who face barriers due to being newcomers to Hyderabad. The goal is to establish a theatre group that embraces cultural diversity and inclusion, by employing those who are marginalized and underrepresented in the performing arts scene.

By nurturing the talents of young artists from all backgrounds, it is hoped to stimulate a new wave of Indian theatre that reflects the realities of contemporary India. As a community-building, this theatre collaborates with marginalized youth to produce innovative and culturally diverse performances of the highest quality.

XPRESSION - A 3-DAY MULTILINGUAL THEATRE FESTIVAL'24:

After the grand success of Theatre Festival'23, Shudrka Hyderabad has decided to organize the multilingual Theatre Festival'24 with an exciting event, workshops, and lectures that celebrate the creativity and diversity of theatre arts. The festival provides a unique opportunity for both local and international theatre artists to showcase their skills and collaborate with each other in a supportive and stimulating environment.

With a variety of performances ranging from classic plays to modern experimental theatre, the festival offers a platform for artists to express themselves in different languages and styles. Through these performances, the festival aims to foster connections between artists and audiences and create a space for collaboration and the exchange of ideas.

The theatre explores the critical aspects of the Human experience such as education, politics, and revolution through the ever-resonant lenses of love and despair.

The festival is not just a showcase of talent, but also a celebration of the art of theatre itself. It is a reminder of the power of storytelling and its ability to connect people from different cultures and backgrounds. The festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of theatre and to appreciate the creativity and hard work of the artists who bring these performances to life.

Moreover, the festival aims to foster cultural exchange by inviting groups from various parts of the country, including small towns and villages, to participate in the event. Through this exchange, the festival seeks to promote a culturally conscious community, particularly among the youth.

However, there are financial constraints, and would greatly appreciate the support that can be offered. As a group that operates on a tight budget, they struggle to break even each season. Unlike their Indian counterparts, they cannot access significant funding resources.

We aim to raise 6L to bring this highly anticipated theatre festival to life.

ABOUT SHUDRKA HYDERABAD:

Shudrka Hyderabad, a theatre group based out of Hyderabad, has been performing plays in Hindi, Bangla, and Telugu since 2004. It wishes to play its part in honouring and developing the culture of the people of India and intends to research, explore, and develop new ways of working in theatre. The group is proud to continue its 18 + years of tradition of contributing to the culture of India and the enrichment of the national theatre community. By promoting the craft of theatre, the organization strives to create a space for individuals to become more sensitive, empathetic, and socially aware. After all, a healthy society requires healthy minds, and theatre can play a vital role in achieving this goal.

The Multilingual Theatre Festival organized by Shudrka Hyderabad is a commendable effort to bring high-quality theatre to the people of Hyderabad without relying on star power. By showcasing theatre productions that have been created under constraints, the festival encourages experimentation and pushes the boundaries of the craft. 

Currently, Shudrka Hyderabad is mentoring a group of young men and women to help bring a Multi-lingual National Theatre Festival to life in March 2024.
