THE BACKGROUND
On June 27th Delhi recorded the highest rainfall in a single day since 1936 (88 years ago). This unprecedented downpour led to flash floods and devastation - roads were washed away and infrastructure including the Delhi airport suffered extensive damage.
The Sri Aurobindo Center for Arts and Communication (SACAC) located at Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg was also not spared. The heavy rains devastated the campus and led to loss/damage to infrastructure, equipment, and musical instruments amounting to INR 40L. Three state-of-the-art audio studios, two classrooms, and an equipment room were completely wrecked.
The estimated costs for replacement and repair are ₹29.7 lakhs for the musical instruments/equipment and ₹10 lakhs for the reconstruction of studios/ classrooms.
We are a 21-year-old educational institution that is highly reputed and focuses on media, communication, and design courses.

THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE HEAVY RAINS INCLUDED:
Three state-of-the-art audio studios have been completely wrecked.
The studios’ acoustic treatment and carpeting must be redone.
All cabling and equipment needs to be replaced
The store (the entire inventory was here) was in waist-deep water.
Nearly all the equipment in the store room was ruined.
Classrooms for the Photography, Ad & PR depts were also damaged.
All the furniture and books in these classrooms have been lost.

The Current Situation: SACAC Post-Devastation:
The audio department, typically bustling with around 70 students working nearly full-time, is now struggling due to depleted resources. Most projects and practical work are on hold because the studios are not operational. A makeshift studio and production room have been set up with equipment donated by benefactors. The lab class, located on the top floor, was thankfully unaffected by the rain.
The photography batch is ongoing but fortunately, the students of this course were not using this room during this period and the AD & PR batch had just completed recently.
