BACKGROUND :
This is a campaign for the children of the poorest of the poor. South of the posh Vasant Vihar area of New Delhi lies the massive Kishangarh urban slum. The kids here go to a school run by an NGO called Samarpan. Their education, their breakfast/lunch, their uniforms, woolens, books, etc are all taken care of.
The school takes care of their children's mental and physical well-being while also educating them so that they have a future to look forward to. The pandemic has hampered funding for the school and this initiative is to raise funds for the continued education of these children.
PROBLEM:
The Kishangarh village in Delhi is an urban slum, inhabited by migrant workers: rag pickers, sweepers, construction workers, etc. who never got the opportunity to go to school. These people live in poverty and find it difficult to provide their families with 3 meals a day, education is a luxury for them. A majority of these children will be first-generation learners who will be the ones to break their families out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
SOLUTION:
The Samarpan Foundation runs a primary school in Kishangarh village, Delhi. The students at the school are not only given an education they are also provided with healthy meals, uniforms books stationery, and a lot more. The Primary School also serves as a Bridge School for late starters covering nursery to kindergarten classes (children aged 3 to 5 years) and Primary Education: Classes 1 to 5 (children aged 6 to 10 years). The meals are a balanced diet that consists of pulses, cereals, and vegetables. Fruits are provided. There are 240 children in this program. School timings are from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm approx. Both breakfast and lunch are given from Monday to Saturday.
Samarpan School was started in 2007 as a Primary School up to Class 5. It prepares children for govt schools and uses a syllabus that is in line with the CBSE syllabus. It is NOT affiliated with any exam board (like CBSE/CSE etc). It is located in Kishangarh Village, a rag pickers colony in Vasant Kunj, the aim was to bring children off the streets and into the classroom Some parents did not see the point of sending their children to school when they could be earning instead the meals provided at school served as an incentive for them as it was two meals less to worry about. Some children had been pushed out of mainstream schools owing to the treatment meted out to them by teachers and peers. In 2011 they rented 2 rooms to start crocheting. This helped In bringing children to school who used to stay home to care for their siblings
A situation is deliberately created to redirect the child's energy away from roaming the streets to a system of coming together, through counseling, fun pastimes, and awareness programs Late starters are given personalized attention to catch up to their age-appropriate classes before joining the mainstream. Other vocational classes, sports training, and value education programs are conducted to ensure well-rounded growth for the child.
The children that will benefit from this campaign are between the ages of 3 and 10.
All it takes is INR 2500 to impact a child for a month this includes 2 meals a day, education, uniforms, stationery, woolens, etc.
It costs INR 2500 to impact a child for 1 month.
This is being done in partnership with the NGO, Samarpan Foundation.
CASE STUDY :
ABOUT ME :
My name is Prisha Mehra. I am 14 years old and a Grade 9 student at the the Pathways School, Gurgaon.
I have undertaken this campaign because I think it is important to impact the life of a child. Many of the parents are unable to pay to educate their children and would rather have them earn money. The fact that the Samarpan school in the Kishangarh urban village in New Delhi provides two meals with education, books, uniforms etc for free makes it impossible for parents NOT to send their children here. This allows these not-so-fortunate kids to experience school life. They are often the first ones to be educated in their entire family.
The cost of educating them is just INR 2500 per month and includes food, uniform education books/stationery, etc. Educating a child here holds the promise of getting a job once they grow up. This will help them get their family out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
Please fund my campaign as a simple act of kindness on your part can have a profound impact on a child's life.

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
