THE CONTEXT
Leena Mehta, a 53-year-old visually impaired woman has faced unimaginable hardships in her life. She grew up in Kalburgi, a city in Karnataka. She lost her eyesight due to multiple sclerosis at the age of 11. Her family then moved to Bengaluru. She used to live with her father until he passed away in 2015. Then she stayed with her brother and sister-in-law for a while but was soon turned away by them. Since then, she has lived in a PG accommodation in Adugodi, Bengaluru, sharing her room with two other women.
The NGO Enable India trained her with employability skills and helped her get a job. She worked there for a while and is unemployed now. Despite these challenges, Leena's spirit remains unbroken.
Leena is unable to work anymore due to her deteriorating sclerosis and now needs a regular monthly income for her day-to-day expenses and medicines.

ABOUT ME
My name is Poorvi Daxini. I am an Executive Director with JP Morgan Chase and have been part of the leadership team for volunteering activities and Access Ability BRG.
Throughout my life, I have helped several people with disabilities find jobs and fulfil their wishes. A couple of years ago, I volunteered for an NGO 'Enable India' where along with other volunteers, we took 40 people with visual impairment on a trek. That is where I met Leena and kept in touch with her and a few other visually impaired folks. I invited them home, fulfilled one of their wishes of getting into a swimming pool and another’s wish to go bungee jumping and rock climbing. I continue to meet them and help them. When I heard of Leena’s predicament, I decided to help her in every possible way.
