THE PROBLEM:
Imagine fleeing your home, seeking safety, but struggling to survive due to severe food shortages.
This is the harsh reality for thousands of Burmese refugees in Mizoram, India.
In the refugee camps, severe food shortages and malnutrition threaten the lives of vulnerable men, women, and children.
In these refugee camps, the situation is dire:
- Severe food shortages
- Widespread malnutrition
- Hunger and uncertainty threatening thousands of lives
My friends and I have devised an innovative solution, Sustainabite, to provide urgent food relief to these refugees and bring hope to those struggling to survive.
THE INITIATIVE:
My friends at Jayshree Periwal International School (JPIS), Jaipur, and I have pioneered an innovative solution to combat malnutrition and hunger among India's most vulnerable populations. Nutrition-fiber-rich wheat is made through a unique process using waste from alcohol production, providing high-protein, fortified food to combat malnutrition.
Our groundbreaking approach transforms Brewer's Spent Grain (BSG- leftover grains from beer brewing) and Distiller's Spent Grain (DSG- leftover grains from alcohol distillation) - nutritious by-products of beer brewing and alcohol distillation - into fortified flour. BSG and DSG are rich in protein, fiber, and essential nutrients but are typically discarded as waste.

We have partnered with Mission Foundation Movement, an NGO based in Aizawl, Mizoram, to support the distribution efforts. They have identified eight refugee camps in the following locations: Durtlang Leitan, Khamrang, Sairang, Nghalchawm, Dapchhuah, Tuirial, Sihhmui Camp 1, and Sihhmui Camp 2.
We're seeking INR 2L to support our mission to combat hunger and malnutrition among Burmese refugees in Mizoram.
This includes production, packaging, transportation, and logistics to deliver nutrient-rich flour to refugee camps.
This funding will enable us to send an initial 100 kgs of nutrient-fiber-rich Sustainabite flour from Jaipur to Mizoram, as requested by the refugee camp authorities.
LEARN MORE ABOUT SUSTAINABITE: FROM WASTE TO HEALTH!
Imagine transforming waste into a lifeline for millions! Our innovative dehydration technology converts waste into nutrient-rich powder, which, when blended with wheat flour, produces protein-fiber-rich flour. With just 5kg of protein fiber, we can create 25kg of nutritious flour, combating malnutrition and fostering a healthier tomorrow.
We collect and process these grains into high-protein, high-fiber flour, mixing it with regular flour for enhanced nutrition.
By harnessing the potential of BSG and DSG, we're creating a sustainable and scalable solution to feed thousands while reducing food waste and supporting a more circular economy.

ABOUT ME:
My name is LAKSHYA MUTHA. I am 17 years old and a Grade 12 student at the Jayshree Periwal Intl School (JPIS), Jaipur.
Driven by a passion for helping others and a dream to eradicate hunger in India, me and my friends founded, SustainaBite an innovative initiative that transforms waste into nutrition.
The struggles of Burmese refugees in the state of Mizoram and the widespread malnutrition crisis fueled our determination to do something. I believe every individual deserves access to nutritious food.
Our innovative approach utilizes Brewer's Spent Grain (BSG) and Distiller's Spent Grain (DSG), which are rich in protein, fiber, and essential nutrients and typically discarded as waste.
We convert these grains into nutrient-rich powder through dehydration technology, blending them with wheat flour to produce protein-fiber-rich flour.
With just 5kg of protein fiber, we create 25 kg of nutritious flour.
We're now seeking INR 2L to support our nutrient-rich flour production, packaging, and also the cost of transportation from Jaipur to Mizoram.
Join us in the mission to eradicate hunger and malnutrition among refugees in Mizoram.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea, a cause or an event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for the pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good deed by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
