1,45,126 (1.45 Lakh) hectares of land in India is cultivated utilizing pesticides.
Chemical pesticides play an integral role in Indian agriculture. These chemicals enhance crop yield and quality.
Despite knowing the risks, many farmers don't take safety precautions when handling pesticides. This leads to alarming consequences: nearly 45% of farmers in South Asia suffer from pesticide poisoning. In India alone, an estimated 6,600 farmers die annually from pesticide poisoning, accounting for 60% of global fatalities.

THE PROBLEM
In Hameedpur village (located 135 km from Jaipur), Rajasthan, wheat, and pearl millet crops are vulnerable to pests due to changing weather patterns. As the pesticide spraying season approaches (January-February), farmers are at risk of pesticide poisoning. They face skin irritation, eye problems, headaches, and even hospitalization. Lack of awareness often leads to misdiagnosis, leaving families unaware of the true cause of their sickness.

THE SOLUTION
Through this campaign, I am committed to ensuring that farmers in Hameedpur village in Rajasthan get protective gear such as durable gloves and plastic face shields. These will safeguard their skin and faces from pesticide exposure and will ensure their health and well-being.
It costs just INR 200 to help one farmer.

ABOUT ME
My name is Suhaani Sriram. I am a Grade 12 student at The Shri Ram School, Aravali campus in Gurgaon.
I am deeply moved by the plight of farmers in Hameedpur village, Rajasthan, who bravely cultivate the land to feed our nation, yet unknowingly put their lives at risk due to pesticide poisoning.
The alarming statistics of pesticide-related illnesses and fatalities among farmers have compelled me to take action. I believe that these farmers, who are the backbone of our food security, deserve our support and protection. By providing them with simple yet effective protective gear, such as gloves and face shields, I hope to make a difference in their lives.
